The best will face the best on Thursday night in the PGCBL, as the top teams in both the Central and the West Divisions square off to lead a six game slate.
Wednesday's Results
Utica 8, Mohawk Valley 6
Geneva 9, Elmira 5
Amsterdam 5, Saugerties 2
Jamestown 8, Glens Falls 5
Thursday's Scheduled Games
Watertown Rapids at Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs
Veterans Memorial Park - 6:45 PM
Thanks to a 7-3 record in their last ten games, Mohawk Valley has opened up a 4.5 game in the Central Division over both Watertown and Utica. The Rapids started the season with three consecutive wins over the DiamondDawgs, but the defending PGCBL champions have counter with four straight triumphs of their own. Tony Rivera (Felician) will make his sixth start of the season for the Rapids, while his counterpart from Mohawk Valley, Sam Beck (Skidmore) will be doing the same.
Albany Dutchmen at Amsterdam Mohawks
Shuttleworth Park - 6:45 PM
The newest edition of one of the PGCBL's fiercest rivalries matches up two of the top five teams in the league, as the 19-13 Mohawks host the 16-13 Dutchmen. Amsterdam had won the first four contests of the season series, but Albany rebounded to take a doubleheader sweep, 5-3 and 16-8, on Sunday. All-Star righthander Deaven Phillips (Tampa) will head to the mound for the Dutchmen, while the Mohawks will counter with the 2-0 Shane Muntz (Wake Forest) at Shuttleworth.
Geneva Red Wings at Jamestown Jammers
Diethrick Park - 7:05 PM
Despite going 5-5 in their last ten games, the Jamestown Jammers still hold an eight game lead in the PGCBL West over Geneva and Elmira. On the road, the Red Wings will look to maintain their spot in second place, which would guarantee Geneva a spot in the PGCBL Playoffs for the second consecutive season. Christian Young (West Virginia), who has allowed just four hits and no runs in his eight innings for the Jammers this season, will climb the mound for Jamestown.
Saugerties Stallions at Oneonta Outlaws
Damaschke Field - 7:05 PM
A walk-off victory over the Glens Falls Dragons on Tuesday night finally got the Oneonta Outlaws back in the win column, and the Outlaws will look to make it two in a row against the streaking Saugerties Stallions, who enter Thursday's play one game behind the Amsterdam Mohawks for first place in the East Division. The season series between the clubs is tied at three after Saugerties claimed both games in a doubleheader on Friday, winning 10-7 and 7-4 at Damaschke Field in Oneonta.
Utica Blue Sox at Adirondack Trail Blazers
Robert Smith Sports Complex - 7:05 PM
The race for second place in the PGCBL Central has tightened significantly, as Utica, Watertown, and Adirondack are seperated by just two games. Each of the final three games in the season series, which is currently tied 4-4, will be played at the Robert Smith Sports Complex in Boonville. Jacob Small (Maine), who led the Blazers to a victory over the Glens Falls Dragons in his first start, will get the ball for the second time this season, and will make his first appearance in Boonville.
Newark Pilots at Elmira Pioneers
Dunn Field - 7:05 PM
Although the Newark Pilots hold the lowest winning percentage in the PGCBL, the Pilots sit just 2.5 games behind Geneva and Elmira for second place in the West Division. The Pioneers have controlled the season series between the rivals, taking five of the seven games thus far this season. Including Thursday night's tilt, the Pilots and Pioneers are scheduled to meet five times in the final three weeks of the season, with three games at Dunn Field and two more at Colburn Park.
