PGCBL Daily Roundup: July 6, 2018

07/06/2018 10:00 AM -

It's going to be a big day in the PGCBL on Friday night, as nine games are scheduled, including doubleheaders in Geneva, Watertown, and Oneonta.

Thursday's Results
Saugerties 5, Mohawk Valley 3
Adirondack 9, Glens Falls 5
Utica 9, Watertown 8

Friday's Scheduled Games

Albany Dutchmen at Geneva Red Wings
McDonough Park - DH - 5:00 PM

After Thursday's scheduled game was rained out in Albany, the two teams will play a doubleheader at McDonough Park. The Dutchmen will be the designated home team in one of the two games. Geneva comes into Friday's game a half game behind second place Elmira, while the Dutchmen are one game behind second place Saugerties. Albany will send former PGCBL Pitcher of the Week Deaven Phillips (Tampa) to the mound in the first game, and will follow with Alex Schwartz (RCBC), who is making his first start of the season.

Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Watertown Rapids
Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds - DH - 5:00 PM

First place in the PGCBL Central will be up for grabs on Friday, as the Rapids will look to reclaim the top spot from the DiamondDawgs.in Watertown. The Rapids hold a 3-1 lead in the season series, but the DiamondDawgs, who lead the Central Division by a half game, won the most recent game, a 16-7 decision at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds. Tony Rivera (Felician) will take the mound in one of the games for the Rapids, while Sam Beck (Skidmore) will start one of the two games for Mohawk Valley.

Saugerties Stallions at Oneonta Outlaws
Damaschke Field - DH - 5:00 PM

Arguably the hottest team in the PGCBL will head to Oneonta for a doubleheader with the skidding Outlaws. The Stallions hold the best record in the PGCBL over the past ten games (8-2), while the Outlaws are in possession of a four game losing streak, the longest active skid in the league. Despite the opposing streaks, the Outlaws hold a 3-1 series lead this season, including a 5-3 win over Stallions on June 17, the most recent meeting between the teams, and are 2-0 at Damaschke Field.

Adirondack Trail Blazers at Utica Blue Sox
Murnane Field - 6:35 PM

The Adirondack Trail Blazers have battled back into the PGCBL playoff picture, sitting only four games behind Watertown in the PGCBL Central, a deficit that could be trimmed to 2.5 games by the end of the night. Adirondack holds a 3-2 season series lead, but it was the Blue Sox who claimed an 8-7 victory in the most recent game between the teams. Friday's game is the first of a three-game series between the clubs, with a doubleheader to follow in Boonville on Saturday that could move the Blazers into third with a sweep.

Newark Pilots at Jamestown Jammers
Diethrick Park - 7:05 PM

For the first time this season, the Jamestown Jammers come into a game on a losing streak, having lost games to Albany and Saugerties. The Jammers return west after two road games against East Division opponents, and will play the first half of a home and home against the Pilots. Jamestown is undefeated against the Pilots this summer, winning the last two games by a combined 26 runs. The pitching matchup will see Trent Baker (Angelo State) face off with Christian Young (West Virginia).

Amsterdam Mohawks at Glens Falls Dragons
East Field - 7:05 PM

Despite being seperated by only four games in the standings, Friday's game between Amsterdam and Mohawk Valley will match up the first and last place teams in the PGCBL East. However, the Dragons have had Amsterdam's number this season, winning four of the six contests between the teams. The game marks the last of four games between the teams over the past nine days. The scheduled starter for the Dragons is Julien Arcos (LIU Post), who has yet to allow more than two earned runs in his three starts this season.
