Only two games were played in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) due to rain and inclement weather on Friday, June 30, both of which between West Division opponents. Here's a look back at first-place Jamestown's victory over second-place Geneva and another impressive win by Elmira, which has now won four in a row:
Jamestown (20-5) 6, Geneva (16-9) 3
The Jammers continued to increase their lead over second-place Geneva in the West Division with a 6-3 home win on Friday. Jamestown scored all of its runs in the second, third and fourth innings, beginning with an RBI single from Jimmy Standohar (Mercyhurst) in the bottom of the second. Following a three-run third, Christ Conley (Canisius) doubled home one run and came around to score on a groundout. Geneva cut the Jamestown lead down to 6-2 with an RBI single from Will Simoneit (Cornell) and a sac fly from Langston Livingston (Saint Joseph’s) in the sixth. The Red Wings scratched across one more in the eighth, but were retired 1-2-3 in the ninth. Cory Blessing (Ohio) earned the win with 6.0 innings of two-run ball with five strikeouts.
Elmira (11-13) 11, Newark (5-20) 3
The Pioneers have been playing much better as of late and continued their strong offensive surge with 11 runs on 20 hits at Dunn Field. All nine Elmira batters had at least one hit and seven produced multiple hits. Colton Evans (UC Davis) and Troy Dixon (Samford) each had four hits, while Anthony Nucerino (UConn) finished 3-for-5 and Ayrton Schafer (Samford) went 2-for-4 with two doubles. On the mound, Elmira starter Jake Hamilton (Kentucky) worked around six hits and five walks in 6.0 innings to earn the win, his second of the summer.
