Amsterdam Teammates Share Player of the Week Honors, Roth Named Pitcher of the Week![]() Week 3 Award Winners (L-R): Liam Wilson (Canisius), T.J. Collett (Kentucky) and Houston Roth (Ole Miss). The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) has announced Amsterdam teammates T.J. Collett (Kentucky) and Liam Wilson (Canisius) as Co-Player of the Week honorees and Elmira’s Houston Roth (Ole Miss) as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 3 of the 2017 summer season. Since debuting for the Mohawks on June 13, Collett has shown off prestigious power at the dish. Although he sits in a tie for first place in the PGCBL with four home runs, the Terre Haute, Indiana, native has done so in six less games and all four homers have come in the past week. In eight games played from June 19-25, the freshman from Kentucky hit .407 (11-for-27) with two doubles, four home runs, 15 RBIs and eight runs scored. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound catcher/first baseman had his most impressive game in a 9-3 win over Saugerties on June 24, when he went 4-for-5 with two doubles, one dinger, a trio of RBIs and two runs. He had the chance to go for the cycle in the ninth, but his fourth hit of the day resulted in a ground-rule double after hopping the wall. Over the past week, Wilson has hit the cover off of the ball with a blistering .579 batting average (11-for-19), while his five doubles and two home runs have resulted in a sky-high 1.158 slugging percentage; both figures paced the PGCBL over the past seven days. In addition, the rising senior from Canisius produced 12 RBIs – second only to Collett – and scored six runs in seven games played. The product of Ayr, Ontario, Canada, finished a perfect 3-for-3 on two occasions, first in a 13-2 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Glens Falls on June 22. All three of his hits that day went for extra bases, as he slugged two doubles and one home run, as part of a season-high five-RBI performance. Collett and Wilson become just the second set of teammates to share the Player of the Week award, joining former Mohawks Josh Gardiner (Radford) and Ed Charlton (NJIT), who did so during the final week of the 2013 season. The duo has led Mohawks to eight straight wins, the longest active streak in the PGCBL. After starting the season with an even 6-6 record, Amsterdam now sits in first place in the East Division at 14-6. This week’s Pitcher of the Week recipient was a no-doubter, thanks to Roth’s record-setting outing in a 2-0 win over the Newark Pilots at Colburn Park on Saturday, June 24. The Freshman All-American from Ole Miss established a new PGCBL single-game record with 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning complete-game victory, a figure that also tied the major league record. The 6-foot-3 right-hander from Oxford, Miss., carried a perfect game into the seventh and faced just two batters over the minimum after surrendering two hits and zero walks on 111 pitches. His 20 strikeouts broke the previous mark of 15, which was set in 2012 by Mohawk Valley All-Star Joe Michaud (Bryant).
