The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce its’ weekly award winners for the sixth week of the 2011 season. The awards are based on games played between July 18 and July 24.

Mohawk Valley’s Selby Brummett (Pardise Valley Comm. College) and Cooperstown’s Chris Kono (Holy Cross) engaged in an eight-inning pitchers’ duel on Wed., July 20 at Veterans Memorial Park in Little Falls. The two starters pitched to a 1-1 stalemate so it’s only appropriate that the pair have been named co-Pitchers of the Week by the PGCBL. Albany utility man Will Remillard (Temple) earned the PGCBL Player of the Week award.

Selby Brummett and Chris Kono took the mound at Vet’s Park on a 90-degree night in Little Falls. Selby Brummett, a PGCBL all-star, pitched a two-hitter over eight innings. He allowed one unearned run, walked none and struck out eight. Brummett carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and retired 11 of the first 12 Cooperstown batters he faced. The Salem, Utah, native kept the first-place Hawkeyes off of the scoreboard in seven of his eight innings. The 6-foot-4 hurler opposed five men over the minimum and induced 13 ground outs.

Chris Kono scattered six hits over eight innings. He gave up one unearned run in the first and then responded with seven scoreless innings in a row. Kono walked one, struck out two and he induced 12 ground outs. The Greenwich, Conn., native allowed only two Mohawk Valley runners to advance safely past second base and just four DiamondDawgs were able to reach second. The 6-foot-5 Hawkeye opposed just six batters over the minimum; he pitched to one man in the ninth.

Will Remillard led all PGCBL hitters last week with a .609 (14-for-23) batting average. Remillard drove in nine runs, scored five times, doubled twice and slugged his third home run of the summer. The Temple University product posted at least one hit in all six of Albany’s games and he recorded multiple hits in five of those six contests. Remillard additionally posted four games with at least one hit, one run scored and one RBI.

The Cohoes, N.Y., native began the week with a 2-for-3 performance at home against Newark in a 6-3 victory. He singled home one run and scored another. The next evening versus Elmira, Remillard went 4-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. He turned in his best performance at Elmira on Thurs., July 21. Remillard dinged a three-run home run and drove in five runs in his first three at-bats; he fell a triple shy of batting for the cycle. The 2011 Philadelphia Big 5 Rookie of the Year recorded three hits and accounted for three runs (two scored, one driven in) in a night cap win over nationally-ranked Glens Falls as part of a twin bill. He closed out the week with an RBI single and a double at home versus Watertown on Sunday night.
