07/21/2011 12:10 PM - The Glens Falls Golden Eagles have ridden a week-long winning streak back into the national rankings. In the latest Summer Top 25 poll, the Golden Eagles are ranked 18th in the nation, up from the "Also receiving consideration" category last week. Glens Falls flip-flopped with Amsterdam which dropped into the "Also receiving consideration" group after being ranked 23rd in the July 13 ratings. The Summer Top 25 is compiled by PG Crosschecker and the web site, CollegeSummerBaseball.net.

Head coach John Mayotte's Golden Eagles have been ranked in the Summer Top 25 in four of the five weeks that the poll has been released. While the Green and Gold was not listed in the Top 25 last week, the team was still listed as being under consideration for the summer collegiate national poll.

Hours after the current Summer Top 25 was released, the Golden Eagles finished off a three-game sweep of the Watertown Wizards at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds in Watertown to extend their winning streak to seven games. The Golden Eagles have not lost since an 8-6 setback to the Elmira Pioneers at Dunn Field on Tues., July 12. The winning streak has seen the Golden Eagles reach double digits three times and earn three victories with late heroics.

The current run for the East Field bunch began with a walk-off win over the Watertown Wizards on July 13. David Olson (Tacoma CC) connected on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th that scored Anthony Pisani (So. Maine) with the winning run in an 11-10 victory. Two nights later in Newark, Mike Kindel (Kansas State) belted a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to propel the Golden Eagles over the Pilots, 4-3. The following evening, back-to-back home runs in the eighth from Kyle Ruchim Northwestern) and Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas) powered the Eagles to another one-run win, this time an 11-10 triumph over
Newark.

Five of Glens Falls' last seven wins have come away from home. The Eagles are 11-6 on the road this season. Last week also included head coach John Mayotte recording his 200th win in a Glens Falls' uniform when the Golden Eagles shut out the Watertown Wizards, 10-0, on July 14. Mayotte, in his eighth season with the Golden Eagles, is the only head coach in franchise history.

After Wednesday night's action, the Golden Eagles held a one and a half game leading over Amsterdam in the race for first place in the PGCBL East.

The Amsterdam Mohawks made their debut in the national rankings last week at number 23. However, despite a 15-5 mark in the month of July and a 6-1 record between July 11 and July 19, the Mohawks dropped out of the Top 25 into the "Also receiving consideration" category. Prior to Wednesday night's loss in Newark, Amsterdam was on a 15-3 tear in its' last 18 games. The Mohawks also recently concluded a stretch of 25 games in 23 days that began on June 24 and ended July 16. In that span, manager Keith Griffin became the franchise's all-time wins leader in regular season games and overall games. Griffin is in his third season as the Amsterdam skipper and he has guided the Mohawks to two league championships.
