Unfavorable weather continued to rain down on Upstate New York on Tuesday, which postponed all but one game in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL). The Jamestown Jammers, the PGCBL’s western-most franchise, had to delay first pitch but was able to take the field against division foe Elmira.
Here’s a look back at the scores from June 6:
Elmira (3-1) 4, Jamestown (2-2) 2
For the majority of Tuesday night’s contest, the story was all about 6-foot-7 flamethrower Christian Young (Niagara County C.C.). The sophomore, who was drafted by the Oakland A’s in the 23rd round of last year’s MLB Draft and has committed to West Virginia University, held the Pioneers scoreless while scattering four hits and three walks across 7.0 innings. Young also struck out 10 batters, the most by any pitcher in the league in a single game so far on the young season. However, the Jammers let their 2-0 lead slip away in the top of the ninth, as Elmira scored all four of its runs in the frame en route to the come-from-behind win. Brett Vosik (Kansas) slugged a two-run double to draw the score even at 2-all, and then an error allowed the go-ahead and insurance runs to touch home safely. Allbry Major (Xavier) went 1-2-3 through the Jamestown side in the bottom of the ninth to complete his second inning of work and pick up the ‘W’ out of the bullpen.
