We received our first taste of rain on Sunday afternoon and the precipitation caused a trio of postponements across the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL), but despite wet conditions elsewhere, contests in Boonville and Saugerties were played without delay.
Here’s a look back at the scores from June 4:
Utica (3-0) 7, Adirondack (2-2) 5
For the second time in the past three games, the Blue Sox and Trail Blazers squared off, this time in Boonville, N.Y. Three Adirondack errors allowed Utica to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, but the hosts tied the game at 3-all with an RBI triple from John Michael Boswell (Furman) in the fourth and a two-run homer from Dan Abate (Monmouth) in the fifth. However, the Blue Sox scored three runs in the sixth and seventh innings combined before adding another in the top of the ninth on a Zane Harris (Wright State) RBI double, making it a 7-3 game. The Trail Blazers trimmed the deficit back to two with a two-run dinger from Lou Matarazzo (Iona) in the bottom of the ninth, but that’s as close as they would come. Albert Ordonez (Graceland) picked up the win in relief with a scoreless sixth inning, while Jake Thompson (Adelphi) received the save with 3.0 innings of work to close the game.
Saugerties (1-2) 8, Oneonta (0-4) 2
The Stallions played in front of their fans at Cantine Field for the first time this season and picked up their first win. They jumped out to an early 5-0 lead through the first four innings, highlighted by a four-run third. In that inning, Matt Forlow (Manhattan) slugged a run-scoring triple and Jack Gonzalez (Stetson) followed with a sac fly to plate Forlow. The Outlaws scored their only two runs of the contest on a two-run double off the bat of Ben Dubas (Alvernia) in the fifth, but the duo of Jason Antalek (Iona) and Kevin Napoleon (Butler) combined to hurl 4.2 hitless innings of relief out of the Saugerties bullpen. Antalek earned the victory with 2.2 innings of work and five strikeouts, while Napoleon fanned four in his 2.0 innings.
