League Leaders This section will normally include the leaders of each statistical category but given there’s only been one day of games, the league leaders will be a part of the Rundown in a few days. Last Night’s Games: Victor 9 Adirondack 0 The Victor RailRiders scored runs in three different innings and used three different pitchers to shutout the Adirondack Trail Blazers in Boonville. The visitors got the scoring started in the first inning on a Nathan Koslowski two-run home run. Then in the second, Keyshawn D’Orso cleared the bases with a three-run double. Dylan Cruther hit a two-RBI double later in the inning to make it a 7-0 game. A sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout in the seventh made it a 9-0 game and rounded out the scoring. TJ Galenti, Brennen Smith and Dominic Danetti combined for the shutout with Smith earning the win. Jarrod Bellinger took the loss for Adirondack. Albany 7 Glens Falls 1 The Albany Dutchmen scored five runs in the first two innings to win their home opener over the Glens Falls Dragons. Justin Childers hit Albany’s first home run of the season and finished with two RBIs on the night to go alongside his three hits. Jon Skidmore and Brent Alford also had multi-hit games. On the mound, Kale Morton was dominant. The Albany starter tossed eight shutout innings, allowing only two hits and one walk. John Bednarek took the loss for Glens Falls as he allowed four runs (all earned) in 5.2 innings. Saugerties 11 Amsterdam 7 The Saugerties Stallions used a five-run fifth inning to go on and defeat the Amsterdam Mohawks, 11-7, at Shuttleworth Park. In the fifth inning, Zach Dethomasis hit an RBI single, a fielder’s choice plated a run, Tyler Noe hit an RBI single and Micah Riddick hit a two-run double. The Mohawks responded in the home half with three runs on an error and a Brandon Cellucci two-run single but that was all they’d get in the game as Saugerties went on to add three more insurance runs. Riddick finished with a three-hit night with three RBIs. Both Nick Patten and Cellucci had two hits for the Mohawks. Moshup Galbraith got the win for Saugerties while Tim Herrin took the loss for Amsterdam. Nate Popiel notched the save. Oneonta 3 Elmira 2 The Oneonta Outlaws won their home opener, 3-2, over the Elmira Pioneers on Thursday to move to 2-0 on the young season. Elmira scored the game’s first run on a Kyle Ruth RBI single and Jason Patnick hit an RBI double later in the inning in what turned out to be the Pioneers’ only runs of the game. Quin Cotton got a run back in the home half of the inning on a Quin Cotton RBI triple. A Jimmy Hand RBI single made it a 2-2 game and Alex Malsch hit an RBI single to left field in the sixth to give the Outlaws the lead for good. Austin Higginbotham earned the win for Oneonta. Newark 7 Jamestown 4 The Newark Pilots used a four-run fifth inning to take the lead against Jamestown and ultimately sweep a season-opening two-game series. The scoring in the fifth started with a Mark Tumosa two-RBI single and was followed by a Luke Reynolds RBI single. An RBI groundout rounded out the scoring for the inning. After the fifth, the rest of the game’s scoring came in the seventh inning when an error by Jamestown led to two Newark runs and Bo-Hao Huang hit an RBI double. Jamestown scored three runs in the inning as well, with its coming on a wild pitch, a Hunter Jones RBI single and another wild pitch. Skyler Defer allowed one run over six innings to earn the win for Newark as Max Ludka got the save. Bradley Griggs took the loss for Jamestown. Utica 5 Mohawk Valley 2 In their first game of the season, the Utica Blue Sox beat the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs, 5-2, to send the defending champions to 0-2 on the young campaign. The Blue Sox took an early 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly but the DiamondDawgs got the run back in the home half of the second on a Justin Kiesow RBI single. Taylor Olmstead responded in the third with the first of his two triples in the game, giving Utica a 2-1 lead. Olmstead hit another RBI triple in the fifth to extend the lead but a Sean Mazzio RBI single in the home half again made it a one-run game. The Blue Sox extended their lead in the seventh on RBI singles from Mitchell Clandra and Robbie Young to seal the win. Craig Prince allowed two runs over six innings to earn the win for the Blue Sox as Chad Burrows notched a three-inning save. Mike Appel took the loss for the DiamondDawgs.
