Mohawk Valley celebrates their win over the Amsterdam Mohawks in the deciding third game of the East Division Championship Series.

Mohawk Valley 5 Amsterdam 1: For the first time in PGCBL history, a team other than the Amsterdam Mohawks will represent the East Division in the PGCBL Championship Series after Mohawk Valley beat the Mohawks, 5-0, in a deciding third game at Shuttleworth Park.
Troy Scocca gave the DiamondDawgs a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run. The Fairfield product hit six home runs during the regular season. Anthony Herrera extended the DiamondDawgs’ lead to 3-0 in the next inning with an RBI double.
Scocca doubled home Matt Pagano in the seventh and Ryan Stekl hit an RBI single later in the inning to add two insurance runs for the visitors. Gage West drove in the only Amsterdam run in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI single, but it wasn’t enough as a new East champion was crowned.
Anthony Herrera relieved Ryan O’Connor in the fifth inning and struck out seven batters while giving up just the one ninth inning run to get the win for the DiamondDawgs. Fernando Guerrero gave up the first three Mohawk Valley runs in five innings of work to take the loss for the Mohawks.
Tuesday is an off-day.
Mohawk Valley at Victor 5 p.m.: The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs and Victor RailRiders will square off in game one of the PGCBL Championship Series Wednesday night at Victor High School. The DiamondDawgs will host games two and three (if necessary). Mohawk Valley won the season series, 2-0, with wins coming on July 23 and June 16. This is both teams’ first appearance in the PGCBL Championship Series. Both the RailRiders and the DiamondDawgs finished in second place in their respective divisions this season.
