Golden Eagles fly high in doubleheader sweep at Mohawk Valley

The Golden Eagles traveled to Little Falls for a double header against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs and came up with the sweep in the twin bill. The Golden Eagles came back to win game one 7-5 and won game two 4-3 in extra innings.

The DiamondDawgs got out to an early lead in the second inning of game one when Dalton Harrington (ULM) lead off the inning with a walk, Willie Shaw (William & Mary) followed that up with a double. After Jordan Serena (Columbia) struck out, Trey Hunt (Point Loma Nazarene) walked to load the bases.

Jordan Friend (Alabama A&M) then sent one over the fence in left center for a grand slam. The DiamondDawgs tacked on another on a Dalton Harrington single in the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles bats then came alive in the sixth after J.Q. Folena (Cabrillo) and Manny Forcier (New Mexico Jr College) lead off the inning with back to back singles. Both of them came around on a Byran Ramirez (UTPA) two run double. Ramirez then came around to score on a Buddy Putnam single later in the inning to cut the DiamondDawgs lead 5-3.

The Golden Eagles started the seventh with a double off the bat of J.P. Rousseau (Vanier). Garrett Degallier (Tacoma C.C.) followed the up by reaching on a throwing error from second baseman Jordan Friend. Folena reached on a fielders choice that scored Rousseau from third after Landon Thibodeaux (LSU Eunice) over threw his catcher trying to get Rousseau at the plate.

The Golden Eagles took the lead on a Ramon Laureano (NE Oklahoma A&M) two run single. They then tacked on one more on a Buddy Putnam (USF) sac fly. Riley Stephenson (UMBC) closed out game one with a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the seventh to earn his first save of the season.

The Golden Eagles struck early in game two with a run in the second on a J.Q. Folena RBI ground out. They then scored two more in the third including an RBI single from Raphael Gladu (College Lafleche to make it 3-0 Golden Eagles.

The DiamondDawgs scored two in their half of the third on a Joey Tracy (University at Albany) home run and a Jordan Serena sac fly. The DiamondDawgs tied it in the last of the seventh on a Willie Shaw bunt single off of Riley Stephenson to send the game into extra innings.

The Golden Eagles took the lead in the tenth inning on a Blake Sydeski (USF) fielder's choice that scored Putnam from third. Riley Stephenson pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the tenth to give the Golden Eagles their second win of the night and a sweep of the double header.
