Filed by the Elmira Pioneers...

Too little too late for the Elmira Pioneers, as they try for a comeback win, but fall short to the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs 7-6. Elmira waited until the sixth inning to fight back offensively and once again harmed by errors they just missed another victory and fall to (4-3) on the still young season.

Mohawk Valley started the night off with a run in the first inning and became the first team in the league to score on the Pioneers at the beginning of the game. A Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice) single which led to a Dalton Herrington (ULM) double that started the scoring for the Diamond Dawgs. Mohawk Valley struck again in the top of the fifth when Rodrigue reached on an error, stole second and moved to third on a single. Landon Thibodeaux (LSU Eunice) grounded out to Frankie Navarrete (Samford), but scored Rodrigue on the play.

The Elmira Pioneers woke up and struck back in the bottom of the sixth on a huge two out rally. Elmira took advantage as Pitcher Carmen began to fade as he hit Colby Gee (Ithaca) and walked three Pioneer batters. Andrew Nist (Temple) hit a ball to the shortstop and with some shifty base running from right fielder Christian Knott (East Stroudsburg) caused Sam Dexter (Southern Maine) to miss judge a ball and score two unearned runs. After a pitching change Chris Kalousdian (Manhattan) smashed a two out double to keep his bat burning as the hottest batter on the team.

After the big inning by the Pioneers the Diamond Dawgs had scoring seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to close the book on the comeback from the Pioneers. After only giving up two runs the night was over for Dan Black (VCU) after five innings. Black struck out two of his nineteen batters and only gave up four hits. Anthony Ciango (Northern Illinios) came into relief in the seventh inning after black and Austin Hill (Corning C.C.) kept a 4-2 lead, but was unable to protect the lead as he gave up three earned runs.
