Rams drop opener 9-8 to Trail Blazers

Filed by the Watertown Rams

BOONVILLE- Brett Brown (Lamar) struck out 13 in six innings of work, but, some bad luck and some untimely mistakes defensively aided Adirondack in the PGCBL opener tonight in Boonville.  Tonight marked the first ever game for the Adirondack Trailblazers in their inaugural season in the PGCBL.  Brown walked two Trailblazers in the first and gave up a three run shot to Luke Emling (Villanova).  Connor Perry (Holy Cross) hit a solo shot in the top of the second to cut the lead to 3-1.  Brown settled in and was dominant over the next five innings.

Chas Parsons (Herkimer County C.C.) matched Brown and held the Rams at bay and at one point the Trailblazers led by an 8-3 score.  In the top of the eighth the Rams offense erupted for five runs to tie the game.  J.J. Wagner (Pacific) hit a two run double to tie the game as Brad Rush (St. John Fisher) leap frogged over the catcher to avoid the tag and tie the game at eight.  Thomas Casey (Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) struck out the first two in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a two out broken-bat infield single that eluded the tall righty.  A wild pitch later and a bloop single by Dominic Fazio (High Point) put Adirondack in front 9-8 and that would be enough as the Rams had the tying run at third in the ninth but Dominic Lopez (Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) just missed a pitch and flew out to deep right center.

Watertown’s two homeruns from Connor Perry and Austin Lueck (South Florida) set a franchise record for homeruns in an opening game.  Watertown opens at home with a 7:00pm start tomorrow night, fireworks night sponsored by Waldroff Farm Equipment, The Jefferson County Farm Bureau and the Watertown Daily Times.  Tanner Rahauser (Millersville) gets the ball for the Rams tomorrow night against Elmira.
