Former Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League all-star Justin D’Amato (Newark 2011) is on a record-breaking pace this spring at St. John Fisher College. D’Amato, a junior from Canandaigua, N.Y., became St. John Fisher’s all-time wins leader this past Saturday (Mar. 30) when the Cardinals upended Empire 8 opponent Stevens, 6-1, in Hoboken, N.J. The southpaw improved his career record to 23-2. Just six days prior to becoming Fisher's all-time wins leader, D'Amato fanned four in a game against Neumann (Pa.) to become Fisher's new career leader in strikeouts.

Saturday, D’Amato went the distance in a seven-inning complete game. He tossed a two-hitter, walked two and struck out eight in a 101-pitch outing. The Fisher junior faced six batters over the minimum and closed out his 23rd career victory by retiring 10 of the final 12 Stevens swingers. Four of D’Amato’s eight strikeouts came in the final three frames. This spring, D’Amato is 3-0 with a 1.88 earned run average. Through five starts, he has thrown two complete games and struck out 32 batters in 28.2 innings. Opponents against the Fisher southpaw have managed just a .167 batting average.

The former Newark Pilot has not lost a game as a starting pitcher since May 12, 2011.

Overall, D’Amato is 23-2 with a 2.54 earned run average. He has made 30 starts for the Cardinals and amassed 173.2 innings and 212 career strikeouts. D’Amato’s 173.2 innings pitched currently ranks seventh in school history, he is 27.1 innings shy of becoming just the second SJFC hurler with at least 200 innings worked in a career.

The 2013 Baseball America NCAA Division III Preseason Pitcher of the Year set school single-season records last year for victories (11) and strikeouts (97).

The Canandaigua, N.Y., native is a two-time Empire 8 Conference Pitcher of the Year. He was a 2012 D3Baseball.com All-America third team selection.

D’Amato is expected to make his next start against Empire 8 opponent Utica College on April 6 or 7.
