Recap - Golden Eagles score 27 runs en route to twin bill sweep

The Glens Falls Golden Eagles swept a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday at East Field as they dominated the Cooperstown Hawkeyes by scores of 14-4 and 13-4.

The wins improve Glens Falls to 10-9 on the season while the Hawkeyes drop to 6-13. The winning pitcher in Game 1 was Brandon Magallones (Northwestern) who goes to 2-0 on the summer, while Eric Gregory was dealt the loss for Cooperstown, dropping to 0-1.

For game two, Jake Doller (Kansas St.) earned the win in relief of Golden Eagles starter Neil Fryer (Siena) to put his record at 1-0 while Andrew Grann took the loss dropping to 1-2.

In the opener, Emmanuel Forcier (New Mexico JC) stole home after singling to lead off the game.

In the top of the second, Cooperstown tied the game on the strength of an RBI fielder’s choice, but Glens Falls struck back quickly in the bottom of the inning on four consecutive walks by Gregory to give the home team the lead for good.

Just one inning later, the Golden Eagles blew the game open with six runs on an RBI double from Buddy Putnam (South Florida), a double that brought in two more runs by Chris King (Louisburg), a two run triple by Forcier and then a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kevin Meyers (N.E. Oklahoma A&M).

A solo home run from Alberto Morales (Clarendon), his first of the season made the lead 9-1 after four.  The Golden Eagles would pour it on in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of RBI singles from Chase Griffin (Georgia Southern) and Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice) and a three-run moonshot from Mike Vigliarolo (St. Louis).

Cooperstown scored three runs in their final at-bat to account for the final margin of 14-4.

In the nightcap, Glens Falls jumped out ahead early with three runs in the home half of the first with an RBI double off the bat of Griffin and an error by Hawkeyes third basemen Quinn Pippin (Tulane) that led to two runs.

The Golden Eagles extended the lead to 7-0 in the 2nd after RBIs from J.P. Rousseau (Georges-Vanier Secondary) and Morales, combined with a two run single from Vigliarolo.

A pair of sacrifice flies from Ty Morris (Cal State Monterey Bay) and Matt Carr (New Paltz) cut the lead to 7-2 following the top of the third.

Glens Falls would open up a double-digit lead after three with two RBIs apiece in the inning from Griffin and Morales, along with Rodrigue scoring a run on a passed ball.

The Golden Eagles would score their 27th and final run of the day, on an RBI double from pinch hitter Meyers.

Mike Clarkson (South Florida) walked in a pair of runs in the seventh to account for the final margin.

Glens Falls will be back in action tomorrow night, Thursday June 28 at East Field as the Golden Eagles host the Newark Pilots on Seat Cushion Giveaway Night with first pitch scheduled for 7 P.M.
