Recap - Wizards remain unbeaten on road with win at Glens Falls

Glens Falls, NY: The Watertown Wizards put in a solid performance on both sides of the ball to earn an 8-3 victory over the hosting Glens Falls Golden Eagles.  Watertown (5-4), rode a great performance from their starting pitcher Nick Bradley to the victory.  Brandon Cipolla (Holy Cross) blew the score wide open in the sixth inning with a bases clearing double, from which the Golden Eagles could not recover.

The Wizards got off to a good start in the second inning, as an RBI double from Dustin Exford (NE Oklahoma A&M) plated Christian Hickman (Alcorn State), to open the scoring at 1-0.  They would extend upon the lead in the third, as they chased Glens Falls starter Mike Clarkson (South Florida) in the inning, with two runners on base.  Both runners would score, when Cory Folk entered the game, and the score sat at 3-0.

Folk was able to hold the score for three innings and Glens Falls showed signs of life in the fifth inning, when back to back doubles from Ross Kivett (Kansas State) and Brandon Matthews (Yavapai) plated the Golden Eagles first run to cut the score to 3-1.  A fielder’s choice cut down Matthews as he tried to advance to third and an excellent play from Watertown second baseman Chris Glynn (UW Parkside) on a line drive by Mike Vigliorolo (Saint Louis) ended the rally.

Watertown would blow the game wide open in the sixth after a throwing error by Folk and a walk loaded the bases and the double from Cipolla was the difference.  The Wizards would tack on two more runs to extend the lead to 8-1 by the time the sixth inning had ended.

Glens Falls would cut the deficit to 8-3 with runs in the seventh and ninth, but it would not affect the outcome and Watertown closed out the victory.  Bradley earned the win for Watertown, improving his season record to 1-0, while Clarkson took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season.

The Wizards are next in action tomorrow, when they host Amsterdam, with first pitch set for 5PM.  Glens Falls hits the road tomorrow, when they travel to Newark, to take on the Pilots.  Game time for that tilt is 7PM.
