The Minnesota Twins have claimed outfielder Darin Mastroianni (Saratoga 2006) off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. The Twins have added Mastroianni to their 40-man roster for Spring Training.

Mastroianni, 26, is one of five former players from the Oneonta Outlaws (Saratoga Phillies 2004-2009) organization to reach Major League Baseball. He was an all-league selection for the Saratoga Phillies in 2006 and he helped the franchise to its first summer baseball championship. The fleet-footed outfielder batted .417 in the league playoffs and he was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the league championship series. Mastroianni led the Phillies in overall batting average (.348), runs batted in (25), stolen bases (17) and triples (eight).

The Mount Kisco, N.Y., native played collegiately at the University of Southern Indiana. He was a 16th-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. Mastroianni advanced quickly through the Blue Jays' system, reaching Double-A New Hampshire in just his second full professional season. The former Saratoga outfielder stole a career high 46 bases in 2010 and he was an Eastern League all-star. Last season, Darin split time between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Las Vegas. He was called-up in late August by the Blue Jays and he made his Major League debut on Aug. 24 against the Kansas City Royals.

Other former Saratoga Phillies that have advanced on to Major League Baseball include Casper Wells (Saratoga 2004) of the Seattle Mariners, Michael Schwimer (Saratoga 2005) of the Philadelphia Phillies, J.D. Martinez (Saratoga 2008) of the Houston Astros and Mike Fiers (Saratoga 2007-08) of the Milwaukee Brewers.
