The PGCBL will host a seven game slate on Saturday, which includes a key doubleheader in Utica and the second chance for the Jamestown Jammers to clinch the PGCBL West.
Saturday's Scheduled Games
Watertown Rapids at Utica Blue Sox
Playoff positioning is at the forefront of Saturday's matchup between Watertown and Utica, as the two teams are currently tied for second in the PGCBL Central. The game takes on even more importance when tiebreakers are considered, as the Blue Sox currently hold a 4-3 lead in the season series. The Blue Sox and Rapids will play four times in the next six days, which could determine a playoff spot in the Central. Tonight's doubleheader makes up the game from June 27 that was rained out.
Glens Falls Dragons at Albany Dutchmen
Entering the weekend, the Albany Dutchmen are both the hunter - 1.5 games back of Amsterdam for first place - and the hunted - one game ahead of Saugerties for second. The Dutchmen will welcome the Glens Falls Dragons, who are looking to play spoiler down the stretch, to Connors Park. Albany head coach Nick Davey will send Zachary Merchant (Southern New Hampshire) to the mound for his sixth start of the season for the Dutchmen, who have a 4-3 lead over the Dragons in the season series.
Saugerties Stallions at Amsterdam Mohawks
Saugerties' hopes for a division championship could hang in the balance at Shuttleworth Park, as the Stallions will look to pull within 1.5 games of first place against the Mohawks. With a victory, the Mohawks would not only move 3.5 games clear of the Stallions, they would also clinch the season series and therefore the tiebreaker over their East Division rivals. All-Star Game starter Zach Durant (Herkimer) will get the start for Amsterdam at home.
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Oneonta Outlaws
Mohawk Valley got a huge victory over the Utica Blue Sox on Friday night, increasing the DiamondDawg lead in the PGCBL Central to 2.5 games. With the two teams chasing them playing a doubleheader, the Dawgs will need a win to avoid one of the two teams moving within a game of first should they sweep. Oneonta and Mohawk Valley have not played to this point in thhe season, and will play a home-and-home series over the next two days, with the series shifting to Little Falls on Sunday night.
Adirondack Trail Blazers at Geneva Red Wings
The Geneva Red Wings picked up two critical victories on Friday, as a victory over Elmira coupled with Monday's suspended game being declared a win put the Red Wings two games clear for second place in the PGCBL West. Adirondack also picked up a much-needed victory over Watertown to pull within four games of second place in the Central Division. Geneva holds a 2-1 in the season series this year, but the Trail Blazers won the most recent meeting, a 5-4 decision at the Robert Smith Sports Complex on June 26.
Newark Pilots at Jamestown Jammers
On Friday night, the Newark Pilots denied the Jamestown Jammers their first opportunity at a division championship celebration with a 16-1 blowout at Colburn Park. The Jammers will now have a chance to clinch at home, and can officially claim the West Division title with a win or a loss by Geneva at home against Adirondack. Newark's win moved the Pilots into a virtual tie with Elmira for third place in the PGCBL West, which currently would send the holder into the PGCBL Playoffs.
