PGCBL Players of the Night: June 23

Throughout the season, the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League will be recognizing a Player and Pitcher of the Night on each game day.

Player of the Night: Khalyd Cox, Utica (Savannah State)

Cox picks up his second nightly honor of the season, thanks to a four RBI performance in Utica's 12-5 victory against the Elmira Pioneers at Dunn Field. The Savannah State product belted his fourth home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning, a solo shot. Utica's nine-hole hitting right fielder went 3-for-5 with two runs scored on the night, moving his season batting average over .400 at .404. The outfielder has reached base in eleven of his last twelve games, and has hit safely in eight of nine. Cox has recorded eight extra-base hits, and has stolen seven bases to go with his 21 hits.

Pitcher of the Night: Blaise Lomon, Utica (Carl Albert State)

In his fourth start of the season, Lomon shut down the Elmira Pioneers over five innings to pick up his first win in a Utica uniform. The righthander, who hails from Pocola, Oklahoma, struck out six Pioneer hitters, and only allowed three hits and a lone walk in five shutout frames. Lomon dropped his season ERA to 2.40, and has allowed less than a hit per inning in his first 15 frames on the mound. The Blue Sox are 4-0 in games started by Lomon, who worked his second scoreless outing of the season in the Blue Sox's 12-5 road victory over the Pioneers.

Stay tuned to PGCBL.com throughout the season for further presentations of the Player and Pitcher of the Night awards.
