Glens Falls Rallies to Edge Stallions

Glens Falls, NY-The Glens Falls Dragons opened their 2018 home campaign at East Field Sunday evening looking to win their second in a row on the young season. The Dragons trailed the entire game, but scored three runs in the eighth to pull out a win in dramatic fashion. 

The Stallions got on the board in the top of the first off of Glens Falls starter James Varela (LIU-Post). Herman Alvarado (Nyack College) led off the game with a base hit and advanced to third on a double by Andrew Taft (Lemoyne). Alvarado scored on a Derek Ripp (Arkansas) RBI single to give Saugerties the 1-0 lead.

The Dragons got even in the bottom of the inning against Saugerties starter Nick Zwack (Xavier) as Nick Kondo (UAlbany) walked and came around to score on a ground out by Anthony Vaglica (LIU-Post).

After the first Varela and Swak were dealing. Varela striking out seven before being relieved by Shane Berringer (Siena). Zwak recording 10 Ks, before giving way to Dillon Good (Lock Haven) in the fifth,  with neither giving up a run for the next several innings.

Saugerties took the lead back in the top of the fifth. Austin Powell (Arkansas State) led off with a walk. After a double by Alvarado, Powell scored on a ground out by John Dempsey (Wofford). 

Glens Falls flipped the script in the in the eighth. Kondo and Justin Rouse (Bellarmine) ripped back to back singles. Danny Ryan (Fairfield) then tagged a three-run homer to put the Dragons ahead for the first time on the evening at 4-2. 

Christian Allegretti (St. Thomas Aquinas) came on to pitch the ninth for Glens Falls and set the Saugerties down in order to earn the save, thus giving the Dragons the win. 

Ryan was 3 for 4 for Glens Falls with three RBIs. Rouse added a pair of hits and two RBIs. 

Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) had three hits for Saugerties. Alvarado and Taft had two safeties each. 

Kyle Cutler, 1-0  (Johnson and Wales) pitched an inning of scoreless relief in the eighth to earn the win. Good 0-1, suffered the hard-luck loss. 

2-0 Glens Falls will host the Albany Dutchmen Monday night at East Field. Game time is 7:05 pm. 

Saugerties is 0-3.
