Dutchmen Put a Close To Bob Bellizzi Field in 2011The Albany Dutchmen (17-28) were defeated by the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (18-29) at Bob Bellizzi Field on Tuesday night by a score of 5-2. The Dutchmen put together a late comeback in their final home game of the season, but an early four-run Mohawk Valley inning proved to be too much for Albany. The DiamondDawgs were first to the scoreboard after an RBI double by DJ Hoagboon (UAlbany) in the second. CJ Sohl (Siena) proceeded to walk-in a second run before Colin Monagle (Jacksonville) hit a two-run RBI double to end the Dutchmen starter’s night. He lasted just 1.1 innings. In the fourth inning the Dutchmen had a prime scoring opportunity loading the bases with no outs. Mohawk Valley starter Tyler Dunaway (Kentucky) escaped the threat untouched with two straight strikeouts and a fly out to end the inning. After Mohawk Valley added one in the top of sixth, the Dutchmen put together a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Garren Palmer (Georgia Southern) ripped an RBI single to chip the DiamondDawgs lead to 5-1. During the top of the sixth Joey Boney (Loyola Marymount) had a beautiful highlight-reel diving catch that resulted in a double play to end the inning. Andrew Deeds (Morehead State) continued the Dutchmen comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh hitting an RBI single to put the deficit at 5-2. Three runs would be as close as the Dutchmen would come as they were held scoreless in the eighth and ninth inning. Sohl was tagged with the loss for the Dutchmen. Dunaway recorded the win going six innings while allowing just five hits and one run. Willie Gabay (Herkimer County CC) came down with the save. Anthony Turgeon (Central Connecticut) led the Dutchmen with two hits. Tanner Barron (Trinity) was strong in relief for Sohl going 3.1 innings while allowing just one run and striking out six. Tuesday marked the finale of an action-packed inaugural season for the Dutchmen at Bob Bellizzi Field. In honor of all the Dutchmen faithful tonight’s game was deemed Fan Appreciation Night where multiple lucky fans in attendance walked away with some great prizes. The Dutchmen will hit the road for their final two games of season tomorrow night against the Glens Falls Golden Eagles in a doubleheader.
