Gerlach To Manage DiamondDawgs In 2011

The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs would like announce that Troy Gerlach will return as Field Manager for the 2011 season. Troy led the Diamond Dawgs in 2010 to a 17-22 record just missing the playoffs by 2 games. The 2010 Diamond Dawgs finished second in the NYCBL with 86 stolen bases and also had two of the top hitters in the league in Jason Simone and Kyle Richardson. Troy spent 2009 as an assistant coach for the 2009 NYCBL Champion, Amsterdam Mohawks, serving as the hitting coach. Amsterdam finished ranked 13th in the country with a 32-12 record. They led the league in homeruns (29) and team batting average of .290. The .290 average also led all wood bat leagues throughout the country. “I would like to thank Travis and Dave for the opportunity to return to Little Falls and coach the Diamond Dawgs. Last summer we came up a little short reaching our goal of making the playoffs. However, with the team that we have put together for 2011 we should have a chance to win every night. I am very excited to return to Little Falls, and coach the Dawgs! I love the atmosphere that the fans bring to Veteran’s Stadium on a nightly bases, and I am looking forward to this summer and competing for the PGCBL Championship.”

Troy is currently in his third year at Paradise Valley Community College where he works with the catchers and hitters. The Pumas will be well represented during the 2011 summer in Mohawk Valley. Former Paradise Valley standouts Jake Saylor, Mikey Ciombor, Jake Swift, Brian King, Mikey Reynolds, and Harlyn Griffiths, will travel to Little Falls to play for their former coach. In 2010, Paradise Valley reached the Junior College World Series, finishing 5th in the country. In their inaugural season of 2009 Paradise Valley won the regular season championship and came within two wins of making it to the Junior College World Series, reaching a top ten finish in the national ranking. Prior to Paradise Valley, Troy spent five seasons with the Arcadia High School Titans. He began as an Assistant Coach at Arcadia (2004-2006) and was co-Head Coach for the 2007-2008 seasons. Troy was honored as the East Sky Region Co-Coach of the Year in 2008 when the Titans, for the first time in school history, won the Regional Championship.

Troy has also been the Head Coach of the Los Angeles Angels Arizona Scout team which went 23-7 in 2008. The team played in the 2007 Connie Mack Regional Tournament where they placed third. Troy has also coached professionally for the Surprise Fighting Falcons (2005) of the Independent Golden Baseball League; St. Johns & Paul High School in Ohio (2002-2003) and for his alma mater, Northwest Missouri State University, (1999-2002).

Troy played two years at Pratt Community College in Kansas before transferring to Northwest Missouri State University where he played another two years. Troy earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and his master’s degree in Athletic Administration from NMSU. Troy currently teaches PE at Tavan Elementary School in Phoenix. Troy and his wife, Terra, reside in Phoenix. “I am so excited to return to coach the Diamond Dawgs and to bring some of the best players in the country to the Little Falls. Our goals are to make the playoffs and bring the PGCBL Championship to the great fans of Little Falls!”
