Pioneers Ground Pilots

The Pioneers continued their homestand last night at Dunn Field taking on division foe, the Newark Pilots. Elmira would fly out in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead on a Ty Yesensky (Old Dominion) RBI single, an a bases loaded walk to Justin Lacy (Longwood) bringing home a run and the big blow of the evening a bases clearing three run double by Logan Uxa (Arkansas State).

The Pilots would put their only run on the board in the fifth as Chase Brown (UT Dallas) would score from third on a wild pitch. Elmira would put the game out of reach with four runs in the sixth inning as Ryan Normoyle (Wash., Md.) would lace a two RBI single to drive in Justin Lamborn (West Chester) and Pat Hyde (NKU). Justin Lacy drove home the last two runs of the night when he stroked a double to score Normoyle and BJ Willis (Wabash Valley).

Pioneers starter Cody Lillich (Niagara) pitched eight strong innings allowing one run and striking out six. Jay Ferri (Rhode Island) would come in for an inning of relief allowing no runs while striking out two batters.

The Pios wrap up their homestand tonight taking on the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. Saturday’s games feature the final Party in the Park Concert Series. After a day off the Pioneers will return to Dunn Field Monday August 1st as we celebrate “Friends of Dunn Field Appreciation Night” with a charity raffle for the benefit of our historic park.
