Dragon Sweep Home Doubleheader Against DiamondDawgs

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Glens Falls Dragons (15-27) swept their home doubleheader on Saturday night at East Field, as they defeated the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (23-13) by scores of 8-3 and 2-1.

In game one, the DiamondDawgs scored first on the night, with a single from Tim Zeng (Fairfield) to bring in a runner, making the score 1-0 in the top of the third. Later in the inning, the Dragons responded and tied the game at 1-all after Matt Hamel (Siena) singled to allow Owen Wosleger (American International) to cross the plate.

Mohawk Valley soon took back the lead, when Clay Koniencki (Monmouth) notched an RBI in both the fourth and the fifth innings, bringing the score to 3-1 DiamondDawgs.

Glens Falls caught fire late in the fifth, tying the game after a wild throw to first allowed Dan Lowndes (Siena) to score, and an RBI by Ryan Beamish (Lee) brought the score even again. The Dragons then took a commanding lead and never looked back, tallying five more runs in the inning. Anthony Vaglica (LIU Post) doubled to bring in Beamish, and Jared Morello (St. Joseph’s), Dan Lowndes, Owen Wosleger, and Matt Hamel all notched RBIs to end the inning, and the game, with a score of 8-3 Dragons.

The winning pitcher was James Varela (LIU Post), and Jonathan McKinney (Southern Union St.) took the loss on the mound.

In the nightcap, the Dragons pioneered the game's scoring with a double from Dalton Ney (Lee) that allowed a runner to score off a wild throw to first base. Moments later, a wild pitch brought in another, giving Glens Falls the lead 2-0 through two innings.

Early in the third, Mohawk Valley notched a run of their own after a throw behind the plate allowed one to score. No other runs were scored, and the inning, and the game ended 2-1 Glens Falls.

The winning pitcher was Tyler Mattison (Bryant), and Clay Chatham (Dartmouth) took the loss on the mound. Heriberto Casasola (Reinhardt) recorded the save.

The Dragons return to East Field on Tuesday night to face the Albany Dutchmen.
