Middle Innings Hurt Dutchmen As They Fall To Watertown

The Albany Dutchmen (16-21) were defeated by the Watertown Wizards (15-23) on Saturday night at Bob Bellizzi Field by a score of 9-4. The Wizards put together six runs in the fourth and fifth inning which proved to be too much for the Dutchmen to come back from.

Will Remillard (Temple) continued his tear at the plate. Coming into the game with a .325 batting average, tops of any Dutchmen, the Albany third basemen ripped an RBI single to get the Dutchmen on the board in the first inning.  The Wizards struck back with a run of their own in the second off an RBI bloop single by Jake McGuiggan (Harvard) to tie the game at 1-1.

Albany stormed ahead once again with two runs in the third. After Andrew Deeds (Morehead State) advanced home on a throwing error, Steve Anderson (Georgetown) hit a bomb to right field to give the Dutchmen a 3-1 lead. It was Anderson's team-leading fifth home run of the year.

The Wizards added six between the fourth and fifth inning to take the decisive lead of the game. McGuiggan continued his good day at the plate hitting an RBI single to even things up in the fourth. A Dutchmen field error by starter Tanner Barron (Trinity) ended up costing the Dutchmen two extra runs in the inning.  After the Dutchmen added one in the bottom of the fourth, a Wizard home run by DH Larry Balkwill (Siena) and Albany throwing error gave Watertown a 7-4 lead and six runs in the two inning stretch.

The Wizards added two more runs in the eighth for the 9-4 victory. A sac-fly RBI by Patrick Puentes (Holy Cross) and passed ball to drive in the second run highlighted the inning. Barron was tagged with the loss for Albany. The Dutchmen righty went four innings allowing seven runs (four earned) and seven hits while fanning five. Wizards starter Zach Weaver (St. Johns Fisher) recorded the win.

Albany will be on the road Monday against the Amsterdam Mohawks at 7 p.m. The Wizards will host the Cooperstown Hawkeyes at 7 p.m. on Monday. For all Dutchmen information visit www.dutchmenbaseball.com or follow us @DutchmenPGCBL.
