Boswell's Big Day Leads Adirondack Past Mohawk Valley

LITTLE FALLS, NY – John Michael Boswell (Atlanta, GA/Furman) went 3-for-5, including two doubles, as the Adirondack Trail Blazers evened their season series with the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs, taking a win at Veteran's Memorial Park on Friday by a score of 6-2.

The Trail Blazers would make sure there would not be a second straight shutout just four batters into the game, as Dugan Darnell (Northville, MI/Adrian) lofted a ball just in front of the Mohawk Valley left fielder to score John Michael Boswell . However, Diamond Dawgs starting pitcher Jonathan McKinney (Marietta, GA/Southern Union State CC) would mitigate the damage to just one, forcing Hayden Rappoport (West Hills, CA/Dartmouth) to pop up to right to end the Trail Blazers' first inning.

Adirondack would load the bases up in the top of the second with two outs, but McKinney would keep his cool. He would force Joe Simone (Wayne, NJ/Rider) to ground out to second base to keep the Trail Blazers at just one run.

Rappoport would make up for his inning ending pop fly in the third with a sacrifice fly that would score Boswell and extend the Adirondack lead to two. However, McKinney would continue to keep his composure, getting three straight outs to mitigate the damage once more.

Simone extended the Adirondack lead to three in the fourth on a hot grounder that would score Matt Codispoti (Patchogue, NY/Albany). Just one batter later, Boswell would club an RBI single to center field that scored Riley Schaefer and made the score 4-0 in favor of the Trail Blazers.

The Diamond Dawgs would come back quickly, forcing Adirondack starter Jake Walker (Milton, MA/Rhode Island) into a second-and-third jam just two batters into the bottom of the fourth. Zack Coker (Tuscaloosa, AL/Alabama) would make Walker pay with a hot grounder to right field that would score Austin Pollack (Harrison, NY/Hofstra). Tim Zeng (Lumberton, NJ/Fairfield) would continue the rally for Mohawk Valley, as a hot grounder that almost got into left-center field, but pulled the second baseman off the plate. When all was said and done, everyone was safe, including Dan Deely (Sonoma, CA/Sacramento State), who walked into the dugout with another run.

Adirondack extended their lead to three in the top of the sixth on a passed ball by Mohawk Valley reliever Nick Caregnato (Buena, NJ/North Carolina Central). That would score Boswell, who got home on very unusual circumstances: a dropped third strike, then an error on a pickoff throw by Mohawk Valley (7-4) catcher Clay Koniencki (Schwenksville, PA/Monmouth) that brought the Trail Blazers' first baseman all the way to third.

Bret Huebner's (Andover, MN/Furman) triple in the top of the eighth extended the Trail Blazers' lead to four, as his ball got all the way to the right-center field and would score Jordan Torrento (Warren, MI/Adrian).

The rest of the way, Adirondack relievers Ryan Maya (/) and Matthew Valin (/) pitched admirably the rest of the way, only allowing three baserunners, all by walks or hit by pitches (only giving up one hit), to put a ribbon on the game for the Trail Blazers (5-7).
Walker was credited for the win for Adirondack, who snaps a four game losing streak. Meanwhile, McKinney picked up the loss for Mohawk Valley, who also snapped a streak of their own: a two-game winning one.

The Diamond Dawgs (7-4) and Trail Blazers (5-7) will finish their home-and-home series on Saturday, this time at the Robert Smith Sports Complex in Boonville.
