Red Wings Fall to Outlaws in Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Geneva Red Wings played in an extra innings contest that involved 32 total hits on the road on Thursday night. They fell victim to a walkoff victory in Oneonta to the Outlaws, 9-8.

The Outlaws opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single. The Wings would answer with five in the top half of the second. An RBI Jake Evans (Alabama Southern CC) double would put the Wings on the scoreboard for the first time on the evening, scoring Trustin Riley (University of Tampa). A couple batters later, Ben Terwilliger (University of Maine) would plate Evans and Langston Livingston (St. Joseph’s) with a 2 RBI triple. The next batter, Matt Chamberlain (University of New Haven), would score Terwilliger with a sacrifice fly. To conclude the scoring half of the inning, Matt Collins (Cornell) would single home Yohei Ishiyama (Yohin University, Japan).

The top of the 3rd would see the Wings add a couple more runs to their lead. Ben Terwilliger added his third RBI of the night on a groundout, scoring Joseph Tassin (Bossier Parish CC). Matt Chamberlain, the next batter, would make it a 7-1 ballgame with a single scoring Jake Evans. In the bottom half of the 3rd, the Outlaws would add a run to make the score 7-2.

The Outlaws would crawl back into the game with three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. In the top of the 7th, Joseph Tassin would add a run to the Wings’ advantage by way of an RBI double, scoring Justin Barr (Central Alabama CC).

In the bottom of the 9th, the Outlaws scored two runs off Geneva closer Colby Mullins (1-1, Andrew College) to send the game to extra innings. The Wings would load the bases in the top of the 10th, but the runners would be stranded. In the bottom half of the frame, an RBI single from Chandler Engel (South Carolina Sumter) would win the game 9-8 for the Outlaws in walkoff fashion.

Geneva starter Alex Bellardini (2-0, Youngstown State) threw 6 innings in the contest, giving up four earned runs and striking out five. Reliever Domenic Nardone (Siena) tossed scoreless 7th and 8th innings, striking out two in the process. Colby Mullins was tabbed with the loss in the game.

The Red Wings (7-4) will return to action on Friday night in Newark against the Pilots.
