Jamestown Blanks Newark in 8-0 Home Victory

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- For the second day in a row the Jammers defeat the Newark Pilots in convincing fashion by winning 8-0 and improving to 4-2 on the season.

In the bottom of the 3rd the Jammers offense got things going with back to back hits from John Conti (Canisius) and Jimmy Standohar (Mercyhurst) to start the inning. 2 errors later and an RBI single by Skyler Valentine (UTSA) the Jammers tallied 3 runs to take the early lead (3-0).

That’s all the run support the Jammers needed as Starter Bradley Griggs (UTSA) had another solid outing by throwing 7 shutout innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 7. Griggs was dominant throughout the game by using his deep repertoire of pitches to keep Newark’s hitters guessing.

The Jammers would add insurance runs in the bottom of the 5th by again scoring 3 runs in the frame. Jammers compiled 3 hits in the 5th inning including an RBI double by Skyler Valentine (UTSA) who finished the day by going 3-3 with a walk. The Jammers went up 6-0 as Bradley Griggs and company took care of the rest.

The Jammers also added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 8th to put the game out of reach. All around It was a full team effort as the Jammers were outstanding in all 3 phases (pitching, defense, offense) that resulted in a big win. The Jammers finished their 4 game homestand by going 3-1 as they now travel to play the Onondaga Flames tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
