Jammers Down Pilots 9-5

The Jamestown Jammers jump out to a big lead early and cruise to a 9-5 victory over the Newark Pilots. The Jammers improve to 3-2 on the season, as the Newark Pilots fall to 1-3.

Lead-off hitter for the Jammers Collin Stack (UMBC) had a big night and that got started in the bottom of the 1st as he singled to begin the inning. After a Ben Brookover (UTSA) single and back to back walks to the 3 and 4 hitters set the stage for a big inning, as the Jammers sent all 9 hitters to the plate. Matt Cross (NCCC) doubled to deep left field to score another run, Alex O’Donnell (Mercyhurst) drove in a run via a sac fly, and a 2 out RBI single by Christian Deaton (CSU Bakersville) rounded out the big inning as the jammers took the 5-0 lead after the 1st.

The jammers picked up right where they left off as Collin Stack (UMBC) again led the inning off with a single and later scored on an RBI single by Skyler Valentine (UTSA). Christ Conley (Canisius) reached on an error and scored on an error to increase the Jammers lead to 7-0.

Each of the first 3 innings, the Jammers lead-off hitter started the inning with a single. This time it was Nick Bernick’s (Niagara) turn as he singled and scored on an RBI single by Christ Conley (Canisius) to make it 8-0 after the 3rd inning.

The Jammers got a solid outing from starting pitcher Quinn Taylor (Felician) who went 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 1 as he kept the Pilots offense off balance.

The Pilots got on the board in the top of the 5th as they scored 2 runs on 1 hit. The Jammers added another run in the bottom of the 6th as Matt Cross (NCCC) collected his 2nd RBI of the game with a sac fly to increase the Jammers lead to 9-2.

The Pilots climbed a little closer in the top of the 9th by scoring 3 runs on 2 hits, including an RBI triple by Colton Carney (Seton Hill), but the Jammers eventually closed it out to win 9-5. These same two teams will square off tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at Diethrick Park.
