Hagerty's Strong Start Leads Flames to First WinSYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Onondaga Flames came into their home opener looking determined. After taking a tough loss in the team’s inaugural game at Amsterdam, the Flames bounced back to roll the Oneonta Outlaws 12-1 at home on Friday. The scoring came early and often for the Flames as they scored three quick runs in the bottom of the first inning. After the first three innings, the Flames had jumped out to an 8-0 lead. At the plate the Flames were led by leadoff hitter and starting second baseman Alex Canty (Monroe C.C). Canty singled to lead off the game and finished 4-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Third baseman Stephen Bennett (Canisius) also had an impressive night with three runs scored while batting out of the nine-hole. All together the team strung together 16 hits with every member of the starting lineup reaching base at least once. However, the biggest performance of the night was from starting pitcher Chase Hagerty (Southeast Missouri). Hagerty, a freshman at Southeastern Missouri, dazzled the Outlaws for six-plus innings. He did not concede a hit until Chandler Engel led off the seventh inning with a single. After the hit Hagerty was pulled from the game and left to a standing ovation from the crowd. Hagerty finished after six innings with three walks and one hit allowed while striking out seven batters. The Flames travel to Utica on Saturday to face the Blue Sox in a 6:30 p.m. game that will be played at Dononvan Stadium. The Flames next home game is June 6 against the Newark Pilots. |
