Last Night’s Games:

Utica 5 Elmira 2

The Utica Blue Sox advanced to the PGCBL Championship Series for the first time in team history with a 5-2 win over the Elmira Pioneers at Dunn Field.

The Blue Sox won both road games in the series to take the series. They took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on an error but Elmira plated two in the fifth to take the lead on a sacrifice fly and a Rob Perteet RBI single. A Mitchell Calandra RBI single in the seventh tied the game at two before a sacrifice fly in the eighth gave Utica the lead for good. A Kyle Winkler RBI single and a groundout in the ninth added insurance runs for the Blue Sox.

Ryan Green tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win for Utica while Parker Caracci took the loss for Elmira.

Albany 4 Amsterdam 3

The Albany Dutchmen tied the East Division Championship Series at 1-1 with a 4-3 thrilling win over the Amsterdam Mohawks at home.

With the game tied at three in the bottom of the ninth, two hit by pitches and a walk loaded the bases for Justin Childers, who promptly hit an RBI single to give the Dutchmen the win and force a game three in the series.

Amsterdam took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Joe Genord RBI single. An error in the third and a passed ball in the fourth extended the Amsterdam lead to 3-0. In the home half of the fourth, though, Brent Alford hit an RBI single, Bray Curreri hit an RBI single and a Cole Malloy RBI single tied the game at three.

Nate Harris picked up the win for Albany while Tim Naughton took the loss for Amsterdam.
