Utica 5 Adirondack 0
Three Utica pitchers combined on a shutout as the Blue Sox beat the Adirondack Trail Blazers, 5-0, at Donovan Stadium.
The Blue Sox took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a Mike Warren two-run single. They extended the lead in the fifth on a Robbie Young RBI single and plated two more in the seventh to finish the game’s scoring.
Gus Varland tossed the first six innings for Utica as he earned the win. Mitchell Boyer took the loss for Adirondack.
Amsterdam 7 Saugerties 2 (Game One)
The Amsterdam Mohawks took an early lead and didn’t look back, beating the Saugerties Stallions, 7-2, in game one of a doubleheader.
In the first inning, Joe Genord hit an RBI single and Tristen Carranza hit a three-run double. In the third, Nick Patten hit a two-run double and a Carranza RBI single made it 7-1 Mohawks. Richie Barrella drove in the last run of the game for Saugerties in the fifth with an RBI single.
Paul Milto picked up the win for Amsterdam as Matthew Jones took the loss.
Amsterdam 4 Saugerties 2 (Game Two)
The Amsterdam Mohawks picked up win No. 25 on the season as they beat the Saugerties Stallions, 4-2, to sweep a doubleheader at Shuttleworth Park.
Michael Pfenniger made it a 1-0 game in the top of the first with an RBI single but Amsterdam got it back in the home half on a Tristen Carranza RBI single. After the Stallions scored a lone run in the fourth, the Mohawks plated two to take a 3-2 lead. Carranza hit an RBI double in the fifth to add an insurance run.
Tim Naughton struck out four in two innings of relief to earn the win while Chase Haney notched the save. Collin Duffley took the loss for Saugerties.
Jamestown 6 Geneva 2
The Jamestown Jammers scored five runs in the middle innings to beat the Geneva Red Wings, 6-2, at home.
Tied at one in the fifth inning, a groundout and a wild pitch made it 3-1 Jamestown. Then in the sixth, Hunter Jones hit an RBI single and Alex O’Donnell hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-1. Geneva scored the game’s final run in the seventh.
Nick Wegmann struck out six over eight innings of two-run ball to earn the win for the Jammers. Alec Jordan took the loss for Geneva.
Mohawk Valley 4 Glens Falls 3
The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs found themselves in yet another one-run game on Friday, coming out on top over Glens Falls, 4-3, in Little Falls.
In the team’s 14th one-run game this season — the most of any PGCBL team — the DiamondDawgs broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth on an Andrew Turner RBI single and a passed ball. Glens Falls rallied for a lone run in the eighth but it wasn’t enough as Mohawk Valley held on.
Anthony Rupp tossed seven innings of two-run ball in earning the win for the DiamondDawgs as Zachary Vennaro notched the save. Joe Jones took the loss for Glens Falls.
Victor 15 Newark 8
The Victor RailRiders scored five runs in the first inning and didn’t look back, going on to beat the Newark Pilots, 15-8, at home.
In the first, a hit by pitch, a Landon Powell two-run double and an Adam Genners two-run single made it a 5-0 game. Newark scored a lone run in the second but Victor extended its lead to 8-1 in the home half. Three more runs scored for the home team in the third before Newark plated five in the fourth. But Victor contained the rally and scored two runs in the home half to go on and pick up the win.
Colin Johnston earned the win for the RailRiders while Skyler Defer took the loss for Newark.
