Bellarmine Boys Lead Glens Falls Over Dutchmen

The Glens Falls Dragons have played their way back into the PGCBL Playoff picture with their recent winning ways. Tuesday night at East Field the Dragons would have a chance to gain ground on the team they are chasing for the coveted fourth spot, the Albany Dutchmen. Despite committing eight errors, the Dragons came away with a 7-6 walk-off win thanks to the heroics of a couple of Bellarmine University teammates.

The Dragons would end Drew Mario (Polk State) to the mound looking for his second straight win since joining the club. The Dutchmen would counter with Cooper Jones (Southern Mississippi).

Glens Falls got on the board first in the bottom of the third. Brian Uliana (Rider) and Josh Brown (Skidmore) reached base on back to back singles. After the pair were bunted over to second and third by Hunter Szaflarski (Lock Haven), Robbie Knightes (St. Johns) singled up the middle to score Uliana with the first run of the game. Ryan Hooper (Cal-Davis) would follow that with an RBI single to plate Brown to make it 2-0 Glens Falls.

Albany scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth. John Skidmore (Dallas Baptist) led off the inning for the Dutchmen by reaching on an error. Justin Childers (Ohio Dominican) then singled, and Albany pulled off a double steal to put runners on second and third. John Novenche (Canisius) then ground to short, reaching on a throwing error to score Skidmore to cut the lead in half.

In the Glens Falls fourth, Drew Greenwood (Bellarmine) led off with a double. Was bunted over to third by Uliana, and came around to score on a passed ball to give the Dragons a two run lead again at 3-1.

Albany would get even in the top of the fifth with a two out rally. The Dutchmen would also get a little help from Glens Falls as the Dragons committed three errors in the frame. Cole Malloy doubled for Albany, and Skidmore reached on an error to keep the inning alive. Childers would then single to drive in two runs to tie the game at 3-3. After yet another Glens Falls fielding miscue, Novenche singled to drive in another pair of runs to give the Dutchmen a 5-3 lead.

Glens Falls came right back in the bottom of the fifth. Knightes walked off of Albany reliever Michael Maul (Trinity). Hooper then also walked, and Chris Kwitzer reached on an error to chase Maul from the mound. Nate Cardy (Gannon) greeted new Dutchmen pitcher Nate Harris (Louisiana Tech) with a bases clearing double to give Glens Falls the lead back at 6-5.

Albany tied the game 6-6 in the top of the sixth when Carson Klepzig (U. of Mississippi) who had doubled off of Glens Falls reliever Franklin Miller (Sacred Heart) scored on a Dragon's fielding error.

Glens Falls would win it in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the tenth. After two were out against Dutchmen relief pitcher Jeff Rivera, Griffin Neuer (Bellarmine) doubled to keep the Dragons alive. Then Drew Greenwood (Bellarmine) singled to right and Neuer beat the throw to the plate to give Glens Falls the 7-6 victory.

John Bednarek (St. Thomas Aquinas) (2-3) got the win in relief for Glens Falls. Rivera (0-1) took the loss for Albany.

The Dragons return home to East Field to meet the Saugerties Dragons. Game time is 7:00 P.M.
