Outlaws outplay Blazers in matinée

In their second game of a six-game home series, the Adirondack Trail Blazers fell to the Oneonta Outlaws in their first matchup of the season 10-5.

Similar to Saturday’s beating by Newark, Oneonta scored three quick runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run from Jimmy Hand. Come the fifth inning, the Outlaws were trailing 5-4. Quin Cotton sent a ball over the fence to tie the game with a home run. Despite two defensive errors, Oneonta relied on their offense to help them stay in the game. In the eighth inning, Kyle Ruedisili tallied a solo shot to give his team their third home run of the game and a 6-5 lead. Hand also hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Alex Malsch. Another three runs scored in the ninth gave the Outlaws plenty of breathing room to hold on to the lead and come out on top.

Coming off one of their worst games of the season on Saturday, the Trail Blazers woke up and stayed neck-and-neck with Oneonta the whole way through. Similar to the Outlaws, the Blazers also scored three runs in the first inning and kept the score tied 3-3 for two more innings. In the fourth, Paul Piccolino and Kenny Collins would each make a full round of the bases to give Adirondack a 5-3 lead. Unfortunately, they recorded only three hits over the next five innings and could not put any more runs on the board.

Reliever Ty Fowler was the winning pitcher and Connor Donahue recorded his third loss in four starts.

Adirondack plays Utica twice on Monday in a day/night double header; the first pitch is at 5 p.m. Oneonta returns home on Monday to defend their home field against the Geneva Red Wings.
