The Glens Falls Dragons came into Saturday night's PGCBL game at East Field winners of two out of their last three games. Coach Casey Job would send Bryan Warzek to the mound looking to pick the win number on the season for Glens Falls. Warzek would not be around for the win, but the Dragons would score two in the sixth and one each in the seventh and eighth to grab the victory.
The Dragons took the lead in the bottom of the third against Saugerties starter Anthony Rocco (Pace) Robbie Knightes (St .Johns) reached on an error and came around to score when Nate Cardy (Gannon) smacked a double off of the left-center field was to plate Knightes to make it 1-0 Glens Falls.
Saugerties would answer in the top of the fourth. After Warzek walked the bases full, Caleb Krerbs (Maine) hit a ground that got past Warzek for an infield single to tie the game at 1-1. The Stallions would pick up another run after the Dragons mishandled the ball behind Warzek. An error was charged on the play and Saugerties led for the first time on the evening.
The Dragons would draw even at in the fifth. After Hunter Szaflarski (Lock Haven) led off the frame with a single, Rocco walked three consecutive batters to force in a run making it 2-2.
Glens Falls regained the lead in the sixth. With two outs Szflarski singled again to begin the rally. That drove Rocco out of the game as Caleb Gregg (Hudson Valley CC) came on for Saugerties. Knightes greeted Gregg with a fly ball to right field that appeared to be lost in the lights and dropped in for a double to make it 3-2 Glens Falls. A throwing error allowed Knightes to advance to third. The Stallions looked like they had a chance to escape with no further damage, but a grounder off of the bat of Ryan Hooper (Cal-Davis) was fielded and thrown away scoring Knightes to make give the Dragons a 4-2 edge.
The Dragons would add a run in the seventh when Drew Greenwood nailed a double down the left field line, and came around to score on an RBI single by Josh Brown (Skidmore) to make it 5-3.
Saugerties pulled within 5-3 in the eighth when Adam Chase (Franklin Pierce) led off with a double off of Glens Falls reliever Franklin Miller (Sacred Heart), and came around to score on a double by Carmine Giordano (Franklin Pierce) to make it 5-3 Glens Falls.
Hooper would add an insurance run when he blasted his first home run of the year in the bottom of the eighth to provide the final margin of victory.
Cardy was 3 for 4 for the Dragons (5-14). Szaflarski and Brown had two hits apiece.
Kerbs had a pair of hits for Saugerties (7-12).
Miller would get the win in relief for Glens Falls. Rocco would suffer the loss.
The Dragons look for their third straight win tomorrow at East Field when they host the Utica Blue Sox.
