The teams in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League develop young talent on the diamond and in the office.
In the last four years more than 50 PGCBL trained interns have accepted sports management and marketing positions throughout the US. Here are some of our latest success stories.
Dan Thompson interned for the Albany Dutchmen for three years. Upon graduating from SUNY- Cortland he and accepted a position with the NYSGA. He currently works in marketing for Hunter Mountain Ski Resort.
Another Albany Dutchmen alumni, Mike Nolan interned for the team in 2011. A graduate from the University of Albany, he currently works as a Communications Specialist for University at Albany. "Interning with the Dutchman provided invaluable professional experience. My position was completely hands -on. I was responsible for writing and publishing a weekly article in the Albany Spotlight News. Additionally, I worked with the on field in game events team and management of the web site. Reflecting back, I would certainly recommend a PGCBL internship to any college student, even if you are not looking for a career in sports." commented Nolan.
Two former Glens Falls interns built on their experience in baseball operations. Joseph Fitzhenry worked for the team 2012, Upon graduation from Marist College he accepted a position as a Media Relations Assistant with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the "AAA" affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Bunta Hasaegawa interned with the club last season. The University of Nebraska graduate built on his experience with the Dragons and accepted a position as a Game Day Experience Representative with the MLB Washington Nationals
Michael Rivera worked as a baseball operations intern for the Geneva Red Wings in 2010 The Hobart William & Smith graduate currently works in the Vendor Services department for NY Mets at Citifield.

Two PGCBL broadcasting interns have teamed up at WENY TV in Elmira. Cody Carlson, a Mansfield University graduate spent a summer as the Elmira Pioneers broadcasting intern. He now is a news & sports reporter for the station. Dan Fetes was a broadcasting intern for the Newark Pilots. The Fredonia State University alum is now the Sports Anchor for the ABC/CBS affiliate in New York's Southern Tier.
Another member of the PGCBL broadcasting internships is Chris Treft. Chris worked last summer calling games for the Glens Falls Dragons. "The experience I gained in the internship has given me the skills and knowledge I needed for my position as play by play broadcaster and Media Manager with the gladiators." stated Treft.
Our teams also take advantage of the first hand knowledge they gain about their interns by hiring them in full time positions. The latest example is
Jon Sargalis. Jon, a graduate of SUNY - Plattsburgh, was an intern for the Mohawks in before he became the team's Director of Marketing & Public Relations Last year Colin Brown was interning for Perfect Game USA. This year he is working in the office of the Geneva Red Wings.
"Year after year I am impressed by the skills and dedication interns throughout the PGCBL bring to their jobs. These youngsters are headed for great careers in sports management or any field of endeavor they choose,” said PGCBL President Jeff Kunion. "We always champion the number of players who make the jump from the PGCBL to a pro career. But, more than 50 of our off the field stars have used their internship as a springboard for careers in sports management."
This spring the teams of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League are looking for our next group of "Off The Field Stars". For more information about the PGCBL and available internship opportunities, visit www.pgcbl.com
