Today is the fourth day of the 2015 PGCBL Postseason.

Last Night’s Games:

Victor 4 Elmira 0: The Victor RailRiders scored two runs in both the second and the sixth innings to beat the Elmira Pioneers, 4-0, and advance to the PGCBL Championship Series in the franchise’s first year of existence.

The RailRiders scored two runs in the second on a Mike Meyers RBI single and an RBI groundout. In the sixth, Mark Cardinalli and Evan Fernandez hit solo home runs to lead off the inning and complete the scoring.

Victor starter Peter Lannoo was brilliant—striking out six in a complete game, three-hit shutout. The right-hander walked just two batters. Elmira starter and PGCBL ERA champion Justin Lewis allowed the four runs in seven innings of work in taking the loss.

Mohawk Valley 5 Amsterdam 0: A night after allowing a PGCBL record for runs scored in a playoff game, the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs shut out the Amsterdam Mohawks, 5-0, to tie the East Division Championship Series at one game a piece.

The DiamondDawgs used a Ryan Stekl RBI single in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. Stekl followed a Troy Scocca double with an RBI triple in the fifth and Sam Machonis hit an RBI single later in the inning to extend the lead to 3-0.

In the sixth, a Matt Pagano RBI bunt single scored Anthony Herrera and a Stekl RBI groundout made it a 5-0 game.

Marcus Failing struck out 10 batters in 7.1 scoreless innings to get the win for the DiamondDawgs. While allowing 11 hits, Failing was able to contain the Mohawks. Brad Schaenzer gave up the first three runs to take the loss.

Tonight’s Game:

Mohawk Valley at Amsterdam 6:35 p.m.: The Amsterdam Mohawks will host the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Shuttleworth Park on Monday with the winner advancing to the PGCBL Championship Series to take on the Victor RailRiders. The two teams played one other winner-take-all game in the PGCBL postseason: Aug. 6, 2012 with Amsterdam coming out on top, 4-2. The Mohawks are 3-1 in winner-take-all games in PGCBL postseason play (wins in 2012 and two in 2013; loss in 2011) and Mohawk Valley is 2-2 (wins in 2014 and 2015; losses in 2012 and 2013).
