Mohawks Defeat Golden Eagles For Share Of PGCBL East Lead

GLENS FALLS, NY - The Glens Falls Golden Eagles hosted the Amsterdam Mohawks for a Saturday night showdown tonight at East Field in Glens Falls, NY. The two teams were a game from each other in the standings coming into the game so it was bound to be a great game, and in the end it did not disappoint.

On the mound for the Golden Eagles was Dylan Baker, a sophomore from Tacoma Community College. His counterpart on the mound for the Amsterdam Mohawks was Mark Leiter Jr. from New Jersey Institute of Technology. Baker went four innings, giving up six hits and five runs (all earned) in his four innings of work. He also K’ed three as well as walked three of the nineteen batters he faced. Leiter Jr. on the other hand went six and two thirds allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits, scattering four walks and K’ing five with a hit batter among the twenty-seven batters faced on his way to the victory. Mark Leiter Jr. moves to (1-4) on the season whereas Baker is now (0-1).

In relief of the Baker for Glens Falls was newcomer Antwan Brown a sophomore right-hander from Sante Fe Community College in Florida, as well as Peter Noordsy from Wofford College. Brown went two innings allowing two hits and three runs (all earned) K’ing one of the ten batters he faced. Noordsy had more luck as he went three innings allowing no runs on two hits K’ing three of the thirteen batters he faced.

In relief of Leiter was Mike Dodakian a right hander from Darmouth. The Freshman went two and two and thirds on the way to his first save of the season. He allowed a hit and K’ed four, giving up 1 walk of the nine batters he faced.

Offensively, the game was highlighted by Amsterdam’s cleanup hitter Luke Maile (Kentucky) who went (2-2) with three RBIs and and three walks. He RBIs came from a home run in the top of the fifth inning. Also for the Mohawks, first baseman Josh Nethaway (Albany) had a day at the dish as he when (2-4). Other who received RBIs were Andrew Green (Eastern Tennessee State) (1-5) with 2 RBIs, Matt Mack (Radford) with one and went (1-4), and nine hitter, DeMarcus Henderson who went (2-3) with two RBIs out of the nine hole for the Amsterdam Mohawks.

For the Golden Eagles at the dish, they scattered six hits and scored three runs on the day. Most of the offensive production was done by leadoff man Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern). The Pre-Med major went three for four, a triple from the cycle. He homered in the first on a 3-2 count, doubled in the third on a 1-2 count, and singled in the sixth. He picked up one RBI on the evening.

Others receiving RBIs was designated hitter, David Olson (Tacoma CC), and Anthony Pisani (Southern Maine) out of the ninth slot.

The Golden Eagles continue their season at home tomorrow versus Mohawk Valley.
