Brewers fall to Mohawks at home 2-0

UTICA, NY – Despite holding the best team in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) to four hits on Sunday (7/19) at Donovan Stadium, the Utica Brewers were unable to end their current three-game losing streak with Amsterdam coming to Murnane Field and winning 2-0.

Pitching well for the Brewers (17-23) was Patrick Bellinger (Tiffin University). The sophomore allowed one earned run to score in seven innings pitched, watching the Mohawks take advantage in the fourth when a leadoff walk by Macy Holdsworth quickly came around to score after Justin Yurchak doubled in his teammate for the first run of the game. Yurchak finished the game 2-for-3, driving in his 20 RBI of the season in the process.

Matching Bellinger inning for inning was Amsterdam starter Jake Mielock. Mielock went two less innings than Bellinger but racked up seven strikeouts, stranding Brewers in running position in the second and third innings. It helped the right hander to the win, needing Christian Maldonado, Joe Randall and Joe Nellis (Herkimer College) to throw the final four innings. Nellis got the save, getting a double play to end the game.

Giving Amsterdam a cushion in the eighth inning was Holdsworth. On the fifth pitch of his at-bat he drove in Aidan McDermott. McDermott reached base via a walk and helped Holdsworth to his ninth RBI of the season.

Utica will have two days off, their most since the beginning of the month. The Brewers will play their next three games on the road, traveling to Adirondack on Wednesday (7/22). Game time is scheduled for7 p.m.
