Mohawks Blank Dutchmen to Win Sixth Straight

The Amsterdam Mohawks knocked out 11 hits for the second consecutive night on their way to a 4-0 win over the Albany Dutchmen Tuesday night at Shuttleworth Park.

Jake Mielock (Tampa) held the Dutchmen scoreless through five innings of work, allowing just two hits, two walks, and striking out four. The Amsterdam bullpen picked up from there to combine for four innings of three-hit ball. The bullpen struck out six and didn’t give up a walk. Albany was led by Eric Mueller (UAlbany) who went 2-for-3 with two singles.

Amsterdam used single runs in four straight innings to build their lead. Amsterdam got on the board in the bottom of the second when Macy Holdsworth (Indiana) singled to score Tyler Kirkpatrick (Marist) from second. In the third, Brendan Tracy (Fairfield) singled with one out before stealing second. He would come around to score when Kirkpatrick beat out an infield single and an errant throw got away from the Dutchmen first baseman.

In the fourth Holdsworth doubled and was followed by Riley Mahan’s (Kentucky) walk. Justin Yurchak (Wake Forest) followed with a single, but miscommunication on the base paths allowed Holdsworth to be tagged out in between third and home. However, Hunter Tackett (Auburn) singled to load the bases before Tracy lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Mahan.

Gage West (Florida State) launched his second home run, a solo shot, of the season to right field in the fifth to provide the final tally.

Mielock picked up the win on the hill to improve to 2-2 on the season. His win is the Mohawks’ sixth in a row as they improved to 23-6. The loss was charged to Albany starter Brandon Nylin (Herkimer CC), who fell to 0-2.

The Mohawks look to win their seventh straight Wednesday night when they travel north to East Field to play the Glens Falls Dragons in the first game of a home-and-home at 7 p.m. Albany (11-15) will look to bounce back Wednesday night when they stay on the road and play the Victor RailRiders at 5 p.m.
