RailRiders Split Doubleheader with Pilots

Newark took game one of the doubleheader by a score of 8-2.  The Pilots went ahead early in this one, scoring 3 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

The Pilots needed just 6 hits to score their 8 runs, due in part to some questionable defense from the RailRiders, who made 4 errors in the game.

Victor’s starting pitcher, Peter Lannoo (Cornell University), took the loss in this one after going 5.0 innings and giving up 6 runs on 5 hits.  However, only 1 of the runs ended up being earned.

Mark Giallanzo (Herkimer College) pitched the final 1.2 innings for Victor, allowing just one base runner and striking out one Pilot.

Newark’s starting pitcher, Jacob Wloczewski (Binghamton University) improved his record to 1-1 on the year after giving up just 1 run on 2 hits.

Mark Martin (Le Moyne College) was 2-4 for the Pilots with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Mark Cardinalli (U.C. Davis) added 2 hits for the RailRiders with a walk.

Game 2 featured a much more exciting game, with Victor coming out on top by a score of 3-2.

Victor again trailed early in this one after Newark scored twice in the top of the second.  However, Victor was able to chip away at the lead and eventually go ahead after scoring 1 run in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th

Jesse Bogacz (Kenyon College) got the start, and eventually the win for the RailRiders in this one.  He improved his record to 1-1 after going 5.0 innings and giving up 2 runs on 2 hits with 5 K’s.

Pat Ryan (Iona College) drops to 0-3 on the year after pitching 4.0 innings of 3 hit ball, giving up 3 earned runs in the process.

Matt Boone (Norfolk State Univesity) and Chris Kemp (Indiana University South East) pitched the final 2 innings for the Riders, giving up zero hits and striking out 2 Pilots.

Joe Simmons (St. John Fisher College) went 2-3 with an RBI while Tommy Wagner (Cornell) and Brady Acker (George Mason University) were both 1-2 with an RBI each.

The two teams will meet again to continue their rivalry next Tuesday, 7/7 at Victor High School.
