Hawkeyes Edge Wizards At Duffy Fairgrounds

The Cooperstown Hawkeyes (9-6) scored three runs in the first and never relinquished the lead in a 6-5 downing of the Wizards (7-10). Rob Rogers (L 1-2, Keystone) battled back to work into the eighth inning but was tagged with the loss.

Coleman Barron (Davidson) had a three-hit day, starting with a leadoff single in the first. The first three batters all reached and scored for the Hawkeyes. Connor Lewis (USC Sumpter) powered the rally with a two-RBI double. Cooperstown added two runs in the third and one in the fourth for their final tally. Barron also stole three bases to take
the league lead with 12.

Larry Balkwill (Siena) continued to make a case for PGCBL player of the Week with a 2-4 day, including a double and two runs scored. Angel Rosa (Alcorn State) drove in two runs and extended his hit streak to eight straight with an RBI-single in the seventh that proved to be the Wizards' final run.

Collin Blankenship (South Alabama) went the distance for the Hawkeyes, scattering nine hits and working around his team's four errors. The Wizards put two runners on in the home half of the ninth, but Blankenship induced a groundout from Rosa to end the game.

JD Sportman (Central Connecticut State) made two diving catches in centerfield for the Hawkeyes, starting off the fifth and ending the eighth.

Adam Krebs (Keystone) struck out the side in the ninth for another Watertown highlight.

The Wizards stay at home to face the west-leading Elmira Pioneers at 7:00 tomorrow night.
