Newark Bolsters Roster With Three Buffalo Bulls

PC: University at Buffalo Sports Information Department
NEWARK, N.Y. – The Newark Pilots announce the signing of three players from the University at Buffalo to their roster for the 2015 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) season.

Sophomore Brian Dudek, and freshmen Logan Harasta and Charlie Sobieraski will make the nearly 100-mile trek east down Interstate 90 to Colburn Park to suit up for the 2014 PGCBL finalists.

Dudek, a 5-10 second baseman, appeared in 46 games and made 42 starts as a true freshman. He batted .221 with seven doubles and one triple. He scored 17 runs and drove in nine more. Defensively, the Cheektowaga, N.Y., native earned 73 assists and finished with a .952 fielding percentage.

A former team captain at St. Mary’s High School in Lancaster, N.Y., Dudek was a three-time All-Catholic first-team selection and an All-Western New York first teamer as a senior. During his senior season, he batted .375 and went 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA. Dudek is the son of former UB infielder Gene Dudek, a 27th round draft pick by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1982 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Harasta was an All-State and an All-Greater Rochester player at Webster Thomas High School in Webster, N.Y., a year ago. The sizable 6-6, 235-pound right-handed pitcher finished 2014 with a 7-1 record, a 1.40 ERA and 55 strikeouts. With the stick in his hands, Harasta hit .403.

Prior to joining the Bulls, Harasta spent the 2014 summer season in the Rochester Collegiate Baseball League. He carved up the competition en route to being crowned the league’s Pitcher of the Year. In the regular season, he went 4-0 with a 0.93 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 29.0 innings. His older brother, Evan Harasta, is an All-America East Conference catcher at the University at Albany.

Sobieraski was a well-decorated baseball, basketball and football player at Lockport High School in his hometown of Lockport, N.Y. Last year, Buffalo News named him its Boys Three-Sport Athlete of the Year. He was an All-Western New York honorable mention after setting the school’s single-season record with 11 touchdown catches and a Second-Team All-Niagara Frontier League basketball player.

The 6-4, 210-pound third baseman was just as lethal on the baseball diamond. During his senior season, Sobieraski batted .538 with nine doubles, a triple, three home runs and 28 RBIs. On the mound, he had a 6-1 record with 57 punchouts. He earned All-Niagara Frontier League honors as a junior and senior, and was a First-Team All-Western New York honoree following his senior campaign.
The Newark Pilots return to Colburn Park for their 2015 home opener on Friday, June 5 against Mohawk Valley.
