Elmira, NY - The Elmira Pioneers along with Elmira Business Institute and Hilliard are excited to announce the 1st Annual Pioneers Hot Stove Dinner. The event will be held on Thursday, April 16th at the Hill Top Inn in Elmira. “I feel this is a great event for the Twin Tiers, and being local owners we want to keep giving back to the community that supports us throughout the summer" stated Co-Owner Don Lewis.

The special guest for the evening will be 3-time World Series champion and 1985 NL Triple Crown winner Dwight "Doc" Gooden. Those attending the festivities will have the opportunity for a VIP meet & greet with Gooden prior to dinner being served to conclude the event. If you are a fan of the New York Mets or New York Yankees you won’t want to miss this event!

The Hot Stove Dinner will give fans the opportunity to meet with Doc Gooden personally as part of their VIP experience prior to the serving of dinner. During the VIP portion of the event fans can have memorabilia signed by Gooden himself, with the purchase of a separate ticket for the dinner there will be a fully catered meal served by Hill Top Inn. Gooden will take to the podium to talk about his experiences ranging from baseball to life after the game. The night will round out with an auction featuring items signed by Gooden as well as Pioneers memorabilia.

Gooden, a native of Tampa, FL was drafted in the 1st round (5th overall) by the New York Mets in 1982. Gooden would spend just a single season in the minors before making the jump to the Majors. He was the 1984 NL Rookie of the Year after winning 17 games and striking out a league best 276 batters. Gooden also finished 2nd in NL CY Young voting that season even though he picked up more wins, strikeouts and a lower ERA than winner Rick Sutcliffe.

The 1985 season would see Gooden lead both the NL and AL in wins (24), strikeouts (268) and ERA (1.53). His 1.53 ERA was the 2nd lowest during the live-ball era trailing only Bob Gibson who had a 1.12 ERA in 1968. Gooden would finish his career after the 2000 season as a 4-time All Star (1984-86, 88) 3-time World Series champion (1986- NY Mets, 1996 & 2000- NY Yankees) and even the NL Silver Slugger recipient in 1992. Gooden threw 1 no-hitter in his career, blanking the Seattle Mariners 2-0 on May 14, 1996 at Yankee Stadium.

"This is a huge event for the Elmira Pioneers to put on and we couldn't do it without the great fans and sponsors including Elmira Business Institute and Hilliard" Stated Co-Owner Robbie Nichols. A limited number of tickets will be available for the 1st Annual Hot Stove Dinner. There will be two separate tickets available for purchase with one being good for the VIP Meet & Greet and another ticket that will be good for the dinner and auction portion of the event.
