Amsterdam dominates Glens Falls, winning 5-0Filed by the Glens Falls Golden Eagles: Glens Falls: The Mohawks came into Glens Falls and defeated the Eagles by a score of 5-0. Sam Steeves (Franklin Pierce) and Kevin Guthrie (Brown) got the start for Glens Falls and Amsterdam and both pitched rather well, but it was Steeves who flinched first in the 3rd inning when he got 2 quick outs but had a pitch turned around by Tommy Kain (Lynn) for a solo home run to left. The Mohawks would add on 4 runs in a crazy 5th inning. The first 2 runners would reach base off of Steeves before Kain would square around to bunt. The bunt was fielded by the catcher who threw it past the second baseman who was covering on the bunt and that would allow 2 runs to score and Kain to reach 3rd base. Kain would come around to score one batter later as Blake Logan (Auburn) hit quite possibly the weakest sac fly of his career. The infield for Glens Falls was pulled in to cut off the run and Logan fisted a weak pop up over the first baseman Rich Guglielmi’s (Saginaw Valley State) head and he had to make an over the shoulder catch to save it from dropping in and by the time he recovered the run had scored from 3rd. Amsterdam would finish their scoring on an RBI double by Joey Aiola (Marist). Both Guthrie and Steeves went 5 full innings but Guthrie didn’t allow a hit and the Eagles would not record their first hit until JQ Folena (Cabrillo) would double down the left field line in the 6th. Guthrie would record 8 strikeouts to Steeves’ 3 and Amsterdam would finish the night getting 18 outs via the strikeout as they were able to avoid the Eagles’ bats. |
