Eagles’ Bullpen Flexes its Muscle in Win

Glens Falls: Albany led for most of the game but it was Glens Falls’ bullpen that kept the Dutchmen within the Eagles’ grasp as the Eagles would come from behind to defeat Albany 6-3.

Sam Steeves (Franklin Pierce) came on in the 5thinning and held the Dutchmen scoreless and hitless in 4 innings of relief. Steeves would receive the win in an outstanding effort as he struck out 6 batters including 5 of his last 6 batters faced. Tyler Ehlers (Colorado Mesa) would take over the 9th and continue that streak as he retired all three batters in the 9th on strikes.

Albany’s starter Drew Tolson (Baylor) pitched effectively as he had only one hiccup in the road as he gave up a 3 spot in the 5th inning. He threw 6.1 innings striking out 4 while scattering 10 hits.

Albany got the scoring started in the bottom of the 1st as Justin Brock (Franklin Pierce) reached base on an error and stole second. He then moved over to third on a groundout and boldly stole home off of Eagles’ starter Williams Durruthy (Florida International).

The Dutchmen would add 2 more in the third inning when Will Miller (Albermarle) would lead off with a double down the left field line and advance to third before being driven in by Adam Lee (Lipscomb). Adam Lee would eventually score on a throwing error by the catcher to finish the offense for Albany.

Glens Falls got to the party a little late but would bring 3 runs around in the 5th inning on five straight singles off of Drew Tolson. Brandon Purcell (Georgia College) would bring home one run and Mark Powell (Bucknell) would bring home 2 more in the inning.

Purcell again would be the center of a big inning as he would supply all the power in the 8th when the Golden Eagles scored the remaining 3 runs. Ryan Dodge (Nova SE) led off the inning with a single and a walk to Colton Montgomery (Georgia College) would put runners at first and second. Purcell came up one batter later and delivered a towering shot down the line in left that cleared the fence for a 3 run homer.
