NEWARK, N.Y. - The Newark Pilots have signed two pitchers from Stevens (N.J.) Institute of Technology.  Jayson Yano (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) will be joined by Robert Robbins (Tallahassee, Fl.) in Newark for the 2014 season.  Both of these players will look to help solidify the pitching staff next summer.

Yano, a sophomore, saw limited action on the mound at Stevens Tech as a freshman in 2013.  But that didn’t stop him from impressing a lot of people during summer ball in The Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League in 2013.  Jayson was ranked as the 13th best pitching prospect in the league.  He finished the summer going 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA in 16.2 innings and had 3 saves.  “He’s a good pitcher and I’m excited to see him build off the success he had last summer in the Cal Ripken League”, said head coach Mike Armstrong.

Joining Yano next summer will be Robert Robbins.  Just like Yano, he is a sophomore RHP.  As a freshman for Stevens Tech, Robbins went 4-0 with a 5.40 ERA and had 31 strikeouts in 26.2 innings.  He played his summer ball in 2013 in the South Florida Collegiate League where he went 4-0 with a 2.83 ERA and finished with 35 strikeouts in 28.2 innings. Coach Armstrong said, “Robert will provide good depth for our pitching staff, whether it be as a starter or a bullpen guy, look for him to play a big role for us.”
