Five players from Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League squads have been named to Perfect Game USA’s 2013 Summer Collegiate All-America Team. PGCBL Pitcher of the Year Eann Cox (Black Hawk) of the Cooperstown Hawkeyes and first team All-PGCBL second baseman Josh Gardiner (Radford) of the Amsterdam Mohawks were third team All-Americans.
Ross Kivett (Kansas State/Glens Falls 2012), the 2012 PGCBL Player of the Year, was a second team All-America selection at second base as a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Orleans Firebirds. Parker Ray (Texas A&M/Cooperstown 2011), was a second team All-American as a starting pitcher for the number one nationally-ranked Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League. Tyler Mautner (Buffalo/Cooperstown 2012), the 2012 PGCBL Home Run Derby champion, was a second team All-America choice at third base for Top Speed Baseball.
Over the last two years, nine players affiliated with Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League teams have been selected to the Summer Collegiate All-America Team.

Eann Cox (Black Hawk) was the 2013 PGCBL Pitcher of the Year and a first team all-league starting pitcher for the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. Cox led the PGCBL in strikeouts (64) and opponents’ batting average (.204) during the regular season. He tied for the league lead in victories (six) and was second among qualifying pitchers in earned run average (2.11). The Lewis University-bound hurler carved out a 6-0 record in eight starts. He threw two complete games, pitched nine innings in a single game twice and totaled 55.1 innings in nine appearances. Cox recorded three double-digit strikeout games and averaged 10.41 strikeouts per nine innings. He won his first four starts of the summer and his six total victories came against five different teams.
Josh Gardiner (Radford) was the starting second baseman for the league champion Amsterdam Mohawks. Gardiner was named first team all-league at second base. The offensive-minded middle infielder led the PGCBL in HBP (14) and he was second in runs scored (40) and third in doubles (15). He tied for third in RBI (33) and was 10th overall in batting average (.327). Gardiner played in 44 regular season games for the Mohawks; he compiled 49 hits, 26 walks, 20 extra-base hits, 15 stolen bases, four home runs, a .520 slugging percentage and a .466 on-base percentage. Defensively, Gardiner led the nationally-ranked Mohawks with 107 assists.
Ross Kivett (Kansas State/Glens Falls 2012) was the starting second baseman for the Orleans Cardinals. Orleans ended the summer ranked 11th nationally by Perfect Game and the Cardinals advanced to the finals of the Cape League playoffs. Kivett, a two-time PG Summer Collegiate All-American, finished third on the Cape with a .336 batting average in 34 games. He topped the Cardinals in batting average and runs scored (20) and was among the top three on the team in hits (47), doubles (10), home runs (three) and OPS (.859). The Broadview Heights, Ohio, native was named All-CCBL first team and he competed in the Cape League’s All-Star Game.
Parker Ray (Texas A&M/Cooperstown 2011) was a starting pitcher for the national champion Brazos Valley Bombers. Ray made six starts during the regular season and went 4-0 with a 1.69 earned run average and 49 strikeouts. The 2011 PGCBL Rising Stars hurler conceded 32 hits in 48.0 innings. He ranked second in the TCL in earned run average and was seventh in strikeouts. Ray opened the league playoffs for Brazos Valley with a 14-strikeout performance in a complete game five-hit shutout against the East Texas Pump Jacks. He returned to the mound in the TCL Championship Game and struck out three of the four Victoria Generals he faced as part of a four-out save that helped clinch the league title.
Tyler Mautner (Buffalo/Cooperstown 2012) was the starting third baseman for Top Speed Baseball, a team based out of Northern California. Mautner won the Far West League’s Triple Crown as the league’s leader in batting average (.389), home runs (eight) and RBI (33). Mautner, the FWL Player of the Year, topped the loop in six different offensive categories. Overall, he batted .390 with 90 hits, 58 runs scored, 57 RBI, 28 doubles, 27 walks and 13 home runs. He appeared in 57 games for Top Speed and set a franchise record with 231 at-bats. The Sherill, N.Y., native had 30 multi-hit and three multi-home run games. |
