LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. - In front of a jam-packed house on Fireworks Night at Veterans Memorial Park, Michael DeCarlo (Herkimer County C.C.) pitched a two-hit shutout through seven innings and the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs provided their own offensive fireworks in a 14-0 victory over the Adirondack Trail Blazers.
The DiamondDawgs jumped out early on Adirondack starter Chas Parsons (Mohawk C.C). Jordan Serena (Columbia) led off the first with a double to center field and then scored on a Landon Thibodeaux (LSU Eunice) single to give the Dawgs a 1-0 lead. The hitting continued in the bottom of the second when the Dawgs put up five runs on four hits. Sam Dexter (Southern Maine) sparked the five-run fireworks with a two-RBI double that scored both Mike Fischer (Columbia) and Trey Hunt III (Point Loma Nazarene). A fielding miscue by the Trail Blazers allowed Dexter to score from second. Willie Shaw (William & Mary) and Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice) provided the offensive fireworks finale for the inning as each smashed an RBI double.
Willie Shaw added his second double of the night, a two-run smash in the third inning to extend Mohawk Valley's lead. Dalton Herrington (ULM) and Landon Thibodeaux followed with back-to-back RBI singles as the DiamondDawgs opened up a 10-0 advantage. Dalton Herrington concluded the offensive fireworks display in the fourth with a bases-clearing, three-RBI triple.
Adirondack's best offensive chance came in the top of the seventh. Chris Divarco (Northern Illinois) walked and and Matt Chaidez (Cal State Stanislaus) singled to put runners on first and third with one out. The rally came to an abrupt halt when Michael DeCarlo forced Keith Ryan (Ave Maria) to hit into an inning-ending double play
The Mohawk Valley bats accounted for 14 runs on 16 hits. Willie Shaw and Dalton Herrington each recorded two hits and drove in four leads to lead the DiamondDawgs' offense, Shaw also scored three runs. Jordan Serena totaled four of Mohawk Valley's 14 runs and Trey Hunt III went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Landon Thibodeaux and Casey Rodrigue each added two hits, Thibodeaux had two RBI.
