Rams downed by Mohawks on Sunday night

WATERTOWN- Amsterdam (14-13) scored four runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-4 lead and went on to defeat host Watertown (14-13) by a score of 9-4. John Nogowski (Florida State) finished 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI to help propel the Mohawks. Chris Bartholomew (Wake Forest) picked up the win (2-1) for the Mohawks while Henry McAree (Shoreline C.C.) took the loss (1-1) for the Rams.

Watertown got out to an early 3-0 lead through three innings of play. In the first, Dominic Lopez (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) started the rally with a two-out single. Lopez advanced on a walk to Brad Rush (St. John Fisher) and came around to score on a single by JJ Wagner (Pacific). Joe Moroney (Kansas) led off the third inning with a single, advanced to second on a walk by Bobby Indeglia (Holy Cross) and came around to score on an error by Amsterdam first baseman Dylan Smith (Auburn). Indeglia advanced to third on the error and came across to score on a sacrifice fly by Brad Rush.

Amsterdam tied the game in the fourth with a three-run inning. Jordan Ebert (Auburn) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.  Following a steal, Shane Zimmer (Canisius) was then hit by a pitch. Ebert advanced to third on a flyout and came around to score on an error by JJ Wagner. With the bases loaded following a walk, Keith Skinner (Fairfield) hit a sacrifice fly to score Zimmer. Ronnie Bernick then hit an RBI single to score Brian Ruby. Watertown regained the lead in the home half of the inning. Bobby Indeglia singled home Colin Theroux (Nevada) to give Watertown a 4-3 lead. Amsterdam would then score six unanswered runs to end the ballgame.

The Mohawks tied the game in the sixth with a home run by Devin Wenzel (Cincinnati). The visitors then scored four runs in the seventh to take the lead for good. Henry McAree replaced Rams starter Anthony Magovney (Buffalo) to begin the inning. Kyle Barrett (Kentucky) reached base via error with one out in the inning. Barrett advanced to second on a balk and came around to score on a single by Jordan Ebert. Ebert then scored on a Shane Zimmer single. Pinch-hitter John Nogowski crushed a double to left-field scoring a run. Brian Ruby joined the club with an RBI hit of his own to conclude the scoring in the inning. All four runs that McAree allowed were unearned. Amsterdam tallied a lone run in the eighth to finish its scoring. Amsterdam leads the league in runs with 163 on the season.

Watertown starter Anthony Magovney hurled six innings allowing four runs (three earned) in his no decision. Amsterdam starter Matt Snyder (Fulton-Montgomery CC) pitched four innings allowing four runs (two earned) while striking out three. Chris Bartholomew pitched three innings allowing no runs to get the win for the Mohawks. Chris Kalica (Schenectady County CC) hurled the final two innings to preserve the Amsterdam lead.

Bobby Indeglia finished 3-for-5 with an RBI, a run, and a walk for Watertown. Joe Moroney and Colin Theroux both  went 1-for-3 while Brad Rush went 1-for-2 for the Rams.
John Nogowski was the only Amsterdam player to tally multiple hits. Six of the nine Amsterdam starters contributed RBIs.

There is a league wide off-day on Monday with no games being played. Watertown returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Adirondack to face the Trail Blazers with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Amsterdam will play host to the Cooperstown Hawkeyes on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM.
